Rihanna's gun tattoo does not symbolize violence

Of course, some of Rihanna's tattoo choices have raised questions. While many associate guns with violence, for instance that doesn't mean Rihanna's tattoo on the right side of her body represents that. In a 2013 interview with ELLE, the "Love On the Brain" hitmaker explained the powerful message behind it. "Everybody wanted to know what was happening in my life. 'Is she a drug addict? No. Is she an alcoholic? No. Is she a victim? No.' That's why I got the gun. It was a symbol of strength. I'll never be a victim," she said.

One of Rihanna's most recent tattoos, the aforementioned camouflaged shark, has since been covered up. When she and rapper Drake used to date, the pair got matching tatts to symbolize their relationship, according to E! News. Since their split, Rihanna has formed a romance with A$AP Rocky and has covered up the ink on her left ankle. In June 2021, she was seen showing off the cover-up by wearing strappy heels in paparazzi photos.
