Celebrity Dating Game Season 2 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far
For every normie who wants to date a celebrity who can't get on Raya, there is always ABC's "Celebrity Dating Game," a game show hosted by Zooey Deschanel and Michael Bolton, in which minor celebs choose a date from a panel of suitors in each episode. Highlights have included "The Bachelorette"s Hannah Brown, actor and Broadway royalty Taye Diggs, and comedian Margaret Cho.
Well, at least there used to always be "Celebrity Dating Game." Now that the first season has wrapped up, fans want to know if the show will be returning for a Season 2 — and if they have a shot with a sitcom star, too.
The show is a revival of the classic '70s dating show "The Dating Game," in which everyday singles chose among other everyday singles. The rebooted version, featuring well-known faces and household names (in certain households at least), got mixed reviews from the critics. But that doesn't mean fans at home aren't clamoring for more. Here's what we can tell you about a potential second season.
When will Celebrity Dating Game Season 2 come out?
As far as a second season of "The Celebrity Dating Game" goes, we don't have a lot of information yet — including when or if it's getting released. But as they say, no news is good news. ABC hasn't yet announced whether the show will be canceled or if it has been renewed for another season. The best indicators we have to go on regarding the future of the show are audience reviews and ratings. So here's what we know.
Ratings-wise, "The Celebrity Dating Game" did relatively okay as compared to other shows, though still nowhere near as high as, say, "The Bachelorette" or "Bachelor In Paradise." While "The Bachelorette" finale drew around 4.4 million viewers, per TVLine, the highest ratings of the season, "The Celebrity Dating Game" had the opposite trajectory. While its premiere episode was watched by around 2.6 million, via TV Series Finale, its final episode was down to 1.8 million. While that's still nothing to sneeze at, losing viewers rather than gaining is not a great sign.
Who would be in the cast of Celebrity Dating Game Season 2?
Obviously, because we don't know yet whether "The Celebrity Dating Game" has even been picked up for Season 2, we can't tell you much about who would be on the cast, assuming a sophomore season happens. What we can tell you is that, at least at the beginning, host Zooey Deschanel seemed more than down to continue to the next season. She, at least, seemed to think a second season was definitely in the cards, as she referenced it in an interview with Parade.
When asked if she'd be doing any singing on the show, Deschanel responded by looking to the future. "Probably next season. I ended up getting involved in this late in the game. By the time I was involved, everything was set with Michael. So, I just said I'll handle the massive amounts of talking," she said. "So, I said maybe next season I'll do a duet or two with Michael."
As nothing has yet been officially announced, take all our speculating with a grain of salt, of course. But hey, it ain't over til it's over.
