Stephen Amell's Flight Controversy Was Worse Than We Originally Thought

Stephen Amell is best known for his role as billionaire superhero Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on The CW's "Arrow." With his charming good looks, athletic build, and warm personality, Amell embodies all the characteristics of a real-life superhero. Taking his superhero persona to the next level, Amell has even graced the professional wrestling ring — wrestling for companies such as WWE, All Elite Wrestling, and Ring of Honor. However, even superheroes have shortcomings.

In June, the Canadian-born actor was asked to leave a Delta Airlines flight for his unruly behavior and a fight with wife Cassandra Jean Amell that left fans and onlookers wondering what the heck happened. The uncharacteristic behavior, which was unlike Amell's squeaky-clean persona, definitely dealt a huge blow to the actor's image and career, and now the actor is looking to make amends. Recently opening up on the "Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum" podcast, Amell finally revealed the truth behind the controversial situation and it was far worse than we had imagined.

So, what exactly happened with Stephen Amell on that fateful flight?

Stephen Amell had one too many drinks leading up to his dismissal

Stephen Amell made headlines in June after his reckless behavior and yelling at wife Cassandra Jean Amell caused him to get escorted off his Delta Airlines flight. Headed from Austin to Los Angeles at the time, Amell was removed from the flight after a flight attendant pleaded that he calm down during an argument with his wife. According to Page Six, Amell was escorted off the plane with the assistance of an air marshal and three flight attendants.

Now, Amell is opening up and telling his side of the story, expressing a remorseful and apologetic sentiment in the process. In an August 31 appearance on "Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum," Amell revealed that he "had too many drinks in a public place, and I got on a plane." The actor then noted that he "was pissed off about something else that had nothing to do with [wife] Cass" and that he "just picked a fight because I wanted to be loud and upset," noting that it wasn't an "argument" since he was the only one speaking.

Amell noted that he "can't even remember what I was upset about" and revealed after his outburst, "A guy came by and said, 'Sir, you have to keep your voice down, please.'" In reflecting, Amell pondered, "Maybe I destroyed my entire life, my entire career?" while noting he was "very ashamed of it, trying to make amends for it, specifically with my wife."

Emotions got the better of Stephen Amell

Upon reports of being "forcibly removed" from his flight, Stephen Amell initially took to Twitter to clarify the situation. In his tweet, he wrote, "My wife and I got into an argument" (which he later clarified), adding that he "was asked to lower my voice and I did." He then added, "Approximately 10 minutes later I was asked to leave the flight. And I did so immediately. I was not forcibly removed."

In a follow-up tweet, Amell noted that he "rebooked myself on a Southwest flight 2 hours later and traveled home without any further issue." The actor revealed that he "let my emotions get the better of me, end of story."

On the "Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum" podcast, Amell looked back in his rage and recalled probably dropping a lot of "f-bombs" while being "too loud" on the plane. He also noted that his wife, Cassandra Jean Amell, did not entertain their "argument." And in a poignant reflection, Amell said, "I'm actually, frankly, like deeply ashamed" of the situation, calling himself "an a**hole in public."

Despite his public outburst, Amell has not received any blowback regarding his on-screen career — still maintaining his lead role as Jack Spade in Starz' professional wrestling drama, "Heels," which premiered on August 15.
