Celebs You Had No Idea Have A Twin
A lot of celebrity siblings follow each other right into show business, especially younger sets of twins. Because of child labor laws limiting the amount of time kids are allowed to spend on set, twins make the perfect work-around. This has led to plenty of famous celebrity twins, like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Tia and Tamera Mowry, and Dylan and Cole Sprouse. But you're probably unaware that tons of other celebs have twins who either chose to stay out of the spotlight, or simply didn't achieve quite the level of fame as their superstar spitting images. These are the celebs you never knew had a twin.
Vin Diesel and Paul Vincent
Fast and Furious actor, Vin Diesel, whose real name is Mark Sinclair Vincent, has a twin brother named Paul Vincent. Vin introduced Paul in a 2014 Facebook post in which he shared a photo of his real brother standing next to his onscreen brother, Paul Walker. And although Diesel had already revealed his little-known twin, about a year and a half later, he had to return to Facebook to shut down the rumor that this guy, who has never been identified, was his brother.
Not much is known about Paul Vincent except that it's said that he works in production despite his IMDb page showing a single credit for sound editing on on a 1995 short film written and directed by, you guessed it: Vin Diesel. At any rate, the extremely important mystery of Twin Diesel has finally been solved, and we can all move on to our next hugely embarrassing waste of time.
Scarlett Johansson and Hunter Johansson
Although he once acted alongside his superstar sister, Hunter Johansson has never had aspirations to follow in her footsteps. In fact, he went directly into community organizing right out of college, and always had his sights set on politics, according to The Observer. He eventually ended up working on then-candidate Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign which led some to believe was the connection behind Scarlett's "I email President Obama all the time" flub.
Regardless, the twins have a "close relationship" as Scarlett once mentioned to Gala (via Irish Central), and that concept was evident in an anecdote she relayed to David Letterman (via Just Jared) where she said Hunter talked her into going to a strip club to celebrate their 21st Birthday. So who cares if she once name-dropped his famous boss? She sounds like a pretty awesome wingman to have around.
Gisele Bundchen and Patricia Bundchen
Gisele Bundchen is one of the most famous supermodels in the whole world, so when it was revealed that she has a twin sister, who is not a runway regular, the knee-jerk reaction was, "Ooh, that has to be rough." It would be like Michael Jordan having a twin brother who couldn't dribble a basketball to save his life. And although they are fraternal twins, Patricia Bundchen clearly shares her sister's genetic gifts, though she chooses to work behind the scenes in the modeling industry.
In a Vanity Fair profile, Patricia had this to say about her stunner sis, "Unlike me, Gisele was very talkative, and she wasn't afraid to be away from home for some time even when she was little. She was very brave, and she was always trying to protect her sisters—something like 'Don't mess with my sisters or you'll have to deal with me!" Despite that dynamic, Patricia somehow ended up as Gisele's spokesperson, according to The Daily Mail, which doesn't seem to make much sense. But hey, who are we to judge? Whatever works for you ladies!
Ashton Kutcher and Michael Kutcher
Ashton Kutcher's twin brother, Michael, was a complete surprise. His mother had no idea she was carrying twins until the moment he was born. Michael revealed this fact in an address to Ottumwa High School (via Twin Cities Pioneer Press) in which he talked about his relationship to his famous older brother as well as his own life dealing with a mild form of cerebral palsy. When talking about their harrowing birth, Mike jokingly refers to Ashton as "Jabba the Hutt," since he was 10.5 pounds and totally healthy. Mike was only 4 pounds and had complications. He said, "The doctor told my parents, 'You might want to name and baptize him. He may not survive.' Of course, Jabba the Hutt was fine. I tell people he must have ate everything while we were in the womb." But he also said he considers Ashton to be his best friend, so obviously one of their biggest shared traits is a sense of humor.
Kiefer Sutherland and Rachel Sutherland
Born in London in 1966 to legendary actor Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, Kiefer and Rachel Sutherland only spent four short years with their dad before their parents' marriage fell apart. They then spent most of their formative years with their mom in Canada, where the famously rambunctious Kiefer admits he was a lot to handle, according to Men's Journal. It's well documented that he continued on a troubled path for a good chunk of his life, and while not much is known about his identical female counterpart, we do know she chose a life out of the spotlight.
Her IMDb is a range of behind-the-camera credits, focusing predominantly on post-production. And as far as whether she and her wild-child bro also share a rebellious streak, Kiefer once gave a big clue that she doesn't. "I have a twin sister, who has helped me through a lot of stuff," he said at TCA Winter Press Tour (via Collider), so it sounds like while they share identical DNA, they definitely have a bit of a yin and yang situation going on.
Giovanni Ribisi and Marissa Ribisi
Actor Giovanni Ribisi's lesser known sister, Marissa, is probably the most known of the "unknown" twins on this list. She had a brief acting career in the '90s with her most recognizable role in Dazed and Confused as Cynthia, the girl who prompt's McConaughey's Wooderson to say, "I love those redheads, man." So, if nothing else, that's a great boast for the resume right there. She's also a Scientologist, started the fashion line, Whitley Kros, got married to rapper/singer/songwriter, Beck, and had two kids with him that they named Cosimo Henri and Tuesday. But out of all that, we're pretty sure the McConaughey thing is going to be the factoid that sticks for life. Call it a hunch.
Laverne Cox and M. Lamar
Remember how we just said Marissa Ribisi was probably the most known of the unknown twins on this list? We're updating that and calling it a tie with Laverne Cox's brother, M. Lamar. Anyone who's seen Orange Is The New Black knows that M. Lamar played the pre-transition male version of Laverne's transgender character in two episodes. But that's essentially the sum of Lamar's acting career. According to an interview with The World of Wonder, Lamar identifies as a "queer, nonbinary Negrogoth" who is described as a "singer/ songwriter / composer cutting a radical swath through the mishegoss of race and sexuality, utilizing a mixed media of art forms, including opera, heavy metal, goth performance, sculpture and video installations." Which is the extremely long way of saying he's like Marilyn Manson if Marilyn Manson was black, queer, and raised in the South. Think we're exaggerating? Check this out.
Aaron Carter and Angel Carter
The Carter family dynamic is one of the most turbulent in the entire music business. The falling out between Aaron, Nick, and their momager, Jane Carter, has been well documented. As was the tragic loss of their sister, Leslie Carter, who passed of a drug overdose and whose death splintered the family even further, with Nick claiming he felt that everyone blamed him for it.
Angel Carter, Aaron's twin sister, managed to steer clear of most of the drama until her wedding landed on the same day as older brother Nick's joint bachelor/bachelorette party in Vegas. He ended up not attending her wedding, which sparked a whole new round of family feuding speculation despite Angel releasing a statement saying, "I love my brother Nick. I wish him all the best. We had a magical wedding weekend." Man, it does not seem fun to be in the Carter family.
Alanis Morissette and Wade Morissette
Alanis Morissette and her twin brother, Wade, share a lot more than just their looks. While Alanis is obviously known for her musical talents, she's also written an advice column for The Guardian, and has a podcast which states that it has "an eye toward healing and wholeness and recovery."
According to Cleveland.com, Wade is also a musician and author, and on top of that is a therapist and yoga instructor as well. So it would seem like the crunchy granola vibe is the biggest shared trait between these twins, but hang on a sec. Because thanks to the all-seeing eye of Twitter, there's one final, and admittedly very weird similarity. Wade Morissette looks exactly like Dave Coulier, Alanis' one-time boyfriend. What? We already told you it was weird!
Jon Heder and Dan Heder
Napoleon Dynamite star, Jon Heder, and his twin brother, Dan, are hands-down the most strikingly identical of all the twins on this list. They're so alike that Jon has run into problems with fans who have approached Dan for autographs and don't believe him when he says he's not Jon. But who could blame them for getting mad, because look at those guys! They even have the same computer animation degrees from Brigham Young University, and are now partners with their older brother, Doug, in their production company, Greasy Entertainment.
Jon even attested to the uncanny closeness between them in a W interview, saying "they basically share a brain." So, they look identical, have the same education, and are now even working together. The only way these guys could be any closer would be if they were conjoined, but let's not give them any ideas. This is already weird enough.
Jill Hennessy and Jacqueline Hennessy
Having starred on two extremely popular shows, Law & Order and Crossing Jordan, TV veteran Jill Hennessy is an instantly recognizable public figure. This supposedly poses a problem for her twin sister, Jacqueline, a "writer and television journalist in Toronto," who Jill described to Contact Music as "a deeply private person." Like Dan Heder, Jacqueline is often on the receiving end of incredulous fans who "think it's really Jill Hennessy just being really bitchy!" according to Jill.
But Jacqueline can't mind the publicity that much. According to Married Biography, she hosts the Canadian "current affairs program Medical Intelligence," and even once filled in for Jill on Law & Order without the fans ever realizing it. She also starred alongside Jill in the 1988 movie Dead Ringers (above). And, oh look, here's Jacqueline singing with Jill at a live performance at Joe's Pub in New York City. Call us crazy, but it doesn't look like Jacqueline has a problem under that spotlight at all.
Alexandra Paul and Caroline Paul
Baywatch star, Alexandra Paul, and her identical twin sister look exactly alike, but that is basically where their similarities end. Alexandra is, of course, an actress, whereas Caroline is a "world-class white-water rafter," who also worked as a firefighter in San Francisco. And as if that wasn't enough, she's also a New York Times best-selling author who once wrote an essay comparing her life to her famous sister's, which included a story about how they pulled a "twin switch" trick on director John Carpenter on the set of Christine. The essay also recounted a time when Caroline's life strangely echoed Alexandra's, when she found herself running down the beach to rescue a drowning victim. "By the time I reached the victim and the surfers, this rescue qualified as the most inelegant ever. If it had been filmed, it would have demanded a second take," she wrote, concluding with, "I don't care what anyone says. Sometimes TV is better than reality." We sort of have to disagree here. If the choice is saving real lives or having to make out with David Hasselhoff while he wore those tiny shorts, we'd run straight toward the fire every time.
Jose Canseco and Ozzie Canseco
Jose Canseco was one of the biggest MLB stars of the '90s, who would eventually turn into one of the most outspoken players in the steroid scandal that rocked professional baseball. Known for having a big mouth, Canseco even wrote a book about the scandal, attempting to drag down many other players with him, most notably, home run record setter, Mark McGwire. Canseco's identical twin, Ozzie, also played professional baseball, but at nowhere near the level of his brother. Jose often used this fact in a callous comparison of the brothers' skills. "I've said this before and I'll say it a million times if I have to: Steroids and other supplements don't make you a super athlete. I have proof: my identical twin brother, Ozzie. Genetically... He used the same type of steroids I used and in equal amounts, and we followed the same workout routine and diet. So why was he just an average player?.. I think it's so hypocritical when athletes are found to be using steroids, the media frames it like they'd be nothing without the juice." If we're reading that correctly, that's Jose not only outing his brother as a steroid user while simultaneously calling him a crappy player. So much for that theory about how twins have an unbreakable, almost supernatural-type of bond, huh?
