Celebs Who Have Crazy Exes
For years, Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie were happily married until they split in 2015. A year later, the actress and ex-hockey star's divorce was finalized, reports E! News. "Mike and I were very in love when we met," Duff told Cosmo. "We both really wanted to get married. I'd been working since the age of 11 or 12, so making that choice at a young age seemed right for me. Maybe it wasn't, but we spent the majority of our time together really happy."
Despite civilized divorce proceedings—which saw Duff, 29, keep two houses and all of her earnings during their marriage—things quickly went south for Comrie. In February 2017, the father of one was accused of rape.
According to TMZ, the former athlete is at the center of an investigation in which a woman says he raped her multiple times at his Los Angeles-area condo after a night at the bar. After the incident, the alleged victim went to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where a rape kit was administered. Comrie, 36, maintains the sex they shared was consensual and that he's known the woman for a long time. To complicate matters, their sexual encounter was a threesome, reports the site. The second woman involved has not file any legal complaints against Duff's ex.
It's unclear if Comrie's recent legal woes will affect his shared-joint custody of little 4 year old Luca.
Sherri Shepherd and Lamar Sally
Sherri Shepherd may be a comedian, but her marriage to Lamar Sally was no laughing matter. The former View co-host, 49, broke up with Sally in 2014 and their divorce was finalized in 2015. But the drama was far from over, at least in regards to the former couple's surrogate baby they had via donor egg and Sally's sperm. A bitter child support dispute launched between the pair following the baby's birth in 2015. To make it clear, Shepherd reportedly wants nothing to do with the boy she helped bring into the world. In fact, to this day, Shepherd has not met little Lamar Jr. Sally.
"What good Christian woman would abandon a child?" Sally said in a revealing New York Post interview. "He's such a good kid. He wants love and I'm scared: Am I giving him enough? Am I enough for both parents?" Shepherd is currently being forced to pay Sally a hefty $4,100 a month to care for the boy, but she's not sending any love. Shepherd believes she was defrauded into having a baby so she could pay child support, adds TMZ. The site adds there are other embryos that haven't been destroyed.
Fast forward to 2017, after several attempts to get the amount of child support increased, a judge sided with Shepherd. "I think that what he was asking for allowed for him not to have to work," she told Dr. Oz (via Page Six). "He never has to worry about anything as long as I'm working. He's on my health insurance. He's got a life insurance policy in case anything happens to me. He'll be taken care of the way Jeffrey [her other son] is. I've just chosen to take myself out because I think it's worse for a child with two parents not getting along."
Bobby Flay and Stephanie March
Ten years of marital bliss came crashing down in 2015 for both celebrity chef Bobby Flay and his wife Law and Order: SVU actress Stephanie March. Page Six reported the marriage fell apart after March, 42, discovered her foodie husband, 52, was allegedly having an affair with his assistant.
But when the divorce proceeding and negotiations began, that's when March did everything she could to burn Flay. That summer, according to Us Weekly, Flay received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It's an honor for any actor, performer and artists let alone for a chef to reach that level of recognition. But during the ceremony, a plane flying above there ceremony carried a message for everyone down below, including Flay. It pulled a banner simply reading "Cheater." While March never confessed to hiring the plane, some signs may point to her as she was bitterly fighting for more money despite having a prenuptial agreement in place. Later that year, March dragged her husband into court just before Thanksgiving proving she'll stop at nothing to fry Flay.
According to Page Six, March accused Flay of breaking their agreement that neither party would use the other's image for profit. As the story goes, March sued Flay because videos of her cooking alongside the star aired on the Food Network. She demanded $105,000 for the videos, but Flay maintained he has no say in how the network schedules programs. The videos in questions were filmed before their split. March also tried to stick Flay with a $14,000 moving bill, from a company which her friend owns. Both attempts to get more cash were shot down by the judge, who also scolded March for dragging everyone to court just before the holiday. March apparently isn't happy with the $5,000 a month in spousal support Flay pays.
Breakups and divorces can bring out the absolute worst in Hollywood. There's no limit to what an angry ex will do to get back at a former lover or nab some extra cash. To make matters worse, some celebrity exes have found themselves in trouble with the law. Of course, there are two sides to every story, but if the rumors are true, these stars have the worst exes in town.
Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian
Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian have broken up, gotten back together, and split up again so many times that it's almost impossible to keep up with the current state of their relationship. The summer of 2017 alone was filled with seemingly never-ending drama, ranging from alleged revenge porn posted on social media, to cheating allegations, and even claims of domestic violence. Reaching a settlement in their nasty custody battle over their daughter, Dream, couldn't even stop the bleeding. Just days later, Kardashian and half-sister Kylie Jenner reportedly sued Chyna for battery, assault, and vandalism.
If it's any consolation: the former couple was forced to come together in the fall of 2017. Unfortunately, it was by way of a lawsuit filed by Chyna's ex, Pilot Jones, who is suing both Kardashian and Chyna for defamation and cyberbullying.
Mel B and Stephen Belafonte
Millions were shocked in April 2017 when former Spice Girl Mel B obtained a restraining against her estranged husband, Stephen Belafonte, after claiming in court documents that he physically abused her, forced her to have three-ways with other women, and threatened to destroy her life, among other horrific allegations.
Just weeks after she obtained a restraining order against Belafonte, Mel B was sued for defamation by the couple's former nanny, who claimed the singer lied about her during the divorce case. According to TMZ, Mel B claimed the nanny had an affair with Belafonte, conceived his child, then had an abortion. Mel B also claimed the nanny had control over sex tapes featuring the trio. The nasty case has also included allegations of witness intimidation, drug use and requests for massive amounts of emergency spousal support, and it's not over yet.
Sarah Hyland and Matt Prokop
On the surface, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland appeared to have a picture-perfect romance with actor Matt Prokop. By all accounts, Prokop had stood by Hyland's side through the good and the bad, like when she revealed to Seventeen magazine in 2012 that her ongoing battle with kidney dysplasia had forced her to undergo a kidney transplant. "He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all that stuff that I need to do to take care of myself," she said at the time. "Any other 21-year-old guy would not be there, I guarantee it. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have him be there for me."
Unfortunately, their five-year relationship was not as perfect as it may have seemed. About a month after their split was reported in the tabloids, Hyland was granted a temporary restraining order against Prokop after accusing him in court documents of physical abuse and making wild threats against her, reported TMZ. At one point, things got so bad that Hyland allegedly enlisted Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen to help her try to peacefully end the relationship.
Hyland also alleged that during one particular argument in May 2014, Prokop grew so angry that he pinned her against a car and proceeded to choke her. "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life," she said in the court documents, according to TMZ.
Prokop reportedly went to rehab in August 2014. Upon his release, the rehab facility recommended that Hyland request a restraining order against Prokop "due to his mental state and attitude against her," reported TMZ.
Karrueche Tran and Chris Brown
It's been more than two years since Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran broke up, but it seems the R&B bad boy can't quite get over it. In February 2017, Tran was granted a domestic violence restraining order forcing Brown to stay at least 100 yards away from her and her family, according to TMZ. The alleged details that led to the request are disturbing, to say the least.
In a sworn statement to the judge, Tran claimed her ex-boyfriend "told a few people he was going to kill me" and "threatened to shoot me." Brown's alleged violence toward Tran allegedly dated back to their dating years, during which he allegedly punched her in the stomach on two occasions and threw her down the stairs, reported TMZ.
Tran was subsequently granted a five-year restraining order against Brown in June 2017. That order came after Tran testified in court that Brown had threatened violence against her after they broke up, including sending text messages threatening to "beat the s**t" out of her and make her life "hell."
Tran discussed her legal action with talk show host Wendy Williams: "It came to a point where I felt like I needed to protect my safety," she said.
Lindsay Lohan and Egor Tarabasov
To say Lindsay Lohan and Egor Tarabasov shared a tumultuous relationship would be an understatement. Despite being engaged for a short period, the pair suffered a number of outrageous ups and downs in the public eye.
After months of dating, things began to unravel for the Mean Girls star and the Russian rich boy in the summer of 2016. According to the UK's Mirror (via Page Six), Lohan feared for her life after he came home allegedly drunk one evening. Police responded to Lohan's London apartment where neighbors heard her shouting, "He just strangled me. He almost killed me." In video footage, she can be heard shouting, "Do it! I dare you again. You're f**king crazy. You sick f**k. You need help. It's my house, get out of my house." Despite police rushing to the scene, no arrests were made in the incident.
Lohan subsequently accused Tarabasov of abuse in an interview for Russian TV, claiming she "feared that Egor may splash acid in my face."
"I realized now you can't stay in a relationship just for love," she told the Daily Mail in August 2016. "No woman can be hit and stay with that person if that person isn't prepared to say sorry... I've kept quiet for so long but now I'm scared of what Egor might do to me and to himself."
Tarabasov denied Lohan's allegations in a statement (via E! News). "I will use all possible legal means to protect my name and reputation," he said.
Paula Patton and Robin Thicke
Paula Patton and Robin Thicke were childhood sweethearts whose romance blossomed into marriage before the world, but their love story fell apart in 2014 when the couple called it quits after 21 years together and nine years of wedded bliss. According to E! News, Patton pulled the plug, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, but many suspected their union began to crumble after Thicke's infamous and raunchy 2013 MTV Video Music Award performance with Miley Cyrus.
Thicke turned to music to try to make amends with Patton. He titled his seventh studio album Paula and, of course, dedicated it to her. Although it was intended to be a sweet gesture, others thought the project came across as creepy, particularly when Thicke took the stage crying. Alas, Paula was a commercial and critical flop, and its namesake also wasn't buying it. Thicke later called his efforts "embarrassing."
Matters between these exes went from bitter to rotten in early 2017 when their son, Julian, reportedly claimed his father was abusive. Thicke released a statement attempting to clear his name, saying he spanked his son using an "open hand on the butt" and that it was the type of discipline he and Patton agreed upon. However, Patton claimed the singer had a history of domestic abuse. She was granted a temporary restraining order against Thicke and sole custody of Julian until their matters could be hammered out in court.
In August 2017, TMZ confirmed that their custody battle had finally come to a close, with Patton and Thicke sharing joint custody of their son.
Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy
The Real Housewives of New York City fixture ended her two-year marriage to Jason Hoppy in 2013, but it would take several more years—longer than the marriage—for the exes to reach a divorce settlement.
Among the couple's many headline-making issues was the custody battle over their daughter, Bryn. According to Page Six, Bethenny Frankel testified that her ex vowed to "destroy" her after she told him she wanted a divorce. "I'm going to have you and your publicist crumbling and crying in the corner," he allegedly told her. The custody battle was finally settled in June 2016, less than two months before their drawn-out divorce became official.
But the drama did not end there. In January 2017, Hoppy was arrested after allegedly confronting Frankel at their daughter's school. It was the final straw for Frankel, who claimed Hoppy sent scores of nasty and harassing emails and text messages to her, to her assistants, and even to her boyfriend. According to Page Six, Hoppy was charged with aggravated harassment in the first degree, harassment in the second degree, and stalking in the fourth degree; he was later charged with two more counts of stalking in June that year. He reportedly sent a whopping 160 texts and emails to the former talk-show host from November 2016 to the end of January 2017.
At the time of this writing, Hoppy's trial is scheduled to begin in October 2017.
Michelle Ghent and Terrence Howard
Empire star Terrence Howard was married to Michelle Ghent from 2010 to 2013, but their last year together was pure war, according to TMZ. In the spring of 2013, Ghent claimed she was assaulted by the actor in Toronto. Ghent accused Howard of cheating, which supposedly threw him into a rage. He allegedly tossed her computer out of a window, slammed her to the ground, and threatened to kill himself and her. In the days following the incident, Ghent claimed Howard continued to talk about suicide, saying in one text message that he wishes he "wasn't such a coward and that I had the courage to finish what should have been accomplished in the abortion clinic 44 years ago."
Later that year, Ghent was granted a restraining order against the Oscar nominee after he allegedly beat her up while vacationing in Costa Rica. Howard claims he was the victim, saying he was maced in the incident. He requested a restraining order of his own, but it was denied.
Two years later, in 2015, just before the statute of limitations expired, Ghent filed a suit claiming she was strangled in the Costa Rican scuffle, reported TMZ. She claimed she was also pushed against a bathroom wall and mule kicked in the fight. In January of 2017, she dropped the suit, filing a request to have the entire case dismissed without prejudice. TMZ said Ghent backed down because she did not want to include his kids as witnesses.
In October 2017, the ex-couple's drama continued when Howard was forced to resume paying Ghent alimony after she won a case on appeal.
Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb
Although she's now happily married to actor Joe Manganiello, Modern Family beauty Sofia Vergara has been tangled in a feud with her ex-fiancé, Nick Loeb, over frozen embryos that were created while they were still dating. Over the years, that battle has spawned tabloid headlines, multiple lawsuits, and even an op-ed piece penned by Loeb in The New York Times claiming their embryos had a "right to live."
A right-to-live lawsuit was filed against Vergara on behalf of the two frozen embryos in question, which are named Emma and Isabella in the suit. That case was later dismissed by a Louisiana judge, who claimed at the time that neither Vergara nor Loeb had permanent ties to the state and that the embryos were actually citizens of California, where they were conceived, according to TMZ.
What that means for the future of this feud remains to be seen. In February 2017, Vergara filed a lawsuit in the state of California to attempt to prevent Loeb from using their embryos without her written consent. Vergara also sought monetary damages in her lawsuit, according to People.
