The Truth About Mzi 'Zee' Dempers From Below Deck Med
"Below Deck Mediterranean" is coming back for Season 6 and, with a new season, comes several new cast members. The hit Bravo show — which will be set in Croatia this trip — follows a group of crew members as they live and work on a luxury yacht, all while dealing with different kinds of guests and challenges.
One new face we'll see on the mega-yacht Lady Michelle is deckhand Mzi "Zee" Dempers. According to his Bravo bio, Zee is from Durban, South Africa, where he was adopted by a large family when he was three years old. It seems that Zee's family inspired his path since he has two brothers who are also in the yachting industry, as a Captain and Chief Officer. Zee apparently "decided to follow in his brothers' footsteps and start a life at sea," per Bravo. When he completed his education in Cape Town, he accepted his first job on deck. However, there were issues with Zee's visa which prevented him from leaving the country.
It appears Zee then pursued other interests. According to his LinkedIn, during his time at the University of Cape Town, Zee studied politics, as well as film and media. He even pursued the latter when he worked as an Assistant Producer for a South African production company from 2015 to 2017. He then switched over to the hospitality industry, serving as general manager for two different restaurants. Yet, Zee eventually returned to sea ...
Mzi 'Zee' Dempers could be this season's breakout star
Mzi "Zee" Dempers could be the breakout star from Season 6 of "Below Deck Mediterranean." Zee is joining the hit reality show as a new deckhand. According to his Bravo bio, he "is ready to jump back into yachting to see the world and learn about other cultures" after visa constraints prevented him from the job in the past. His bio also mentions his "contagious laughter and lovable spirit" which makes him "the life of every party!"
It seems former "Below Deck" star Adrienne Gang also noticed Zee's lovable spirit, telling Showbiz CheatSheet he's "personable and likable," as well as "kind of like a big teddy bear." She revealed, "I think he's going to be the most lovable person that we see on this season just in an all-around way." She also compared him to other "Below Deck" stars adding, "I think after we've seen a couple of seasons where we had people like that, like Colin [Macy-O'Toole] from 'Below Deck Med' and Colin [Macrae] from the 'Sailing' season. Where everybody just goes, 'awe.'"
Zee appears to be excited about the new gig. He posted a photo on his Instagram announcing he's joined the show, as well as one of himself onboard the yacht and another wakeboarding off it. What Zee hasn't posted is the trailer for Season 6, which shows him kissing another crew member. Oh boy. We're excited to see what else is in store for him!
