The Real Life Partners Of The Cast Of New Amsterdam
The medical drama "New Amsterdam" has been a hit for NBC since its debut in 2018. According to NBC, the series is about a hospital's new medical director, Dr. Max Goodwin, who is "committed to solving systemic health care issues at the hospital" all while grieving his wife's death and dealing with cancer. The show was inspired by the memoir "Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital" by Dr. Eric Manheimer, who worked as a medical director for 15 years.
The show stars actor Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin, along with actors Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman, Jocko Sims, and Tyler Labine as fellow doctors in the hospital. "New Amsterdam" is currently on Season 3, with showrunner David Schulner promising for an exciting season finale after their last season was cut short due to COVID. He told TV Line, the finale is "a completely different 'New Amsterdam' episode. It looks and sounds like nothing we've ever done before."
Fans clearly like what they're seeing since "New Amsterdam" has already been renewed for Seasons 4 and 5, with Season 4 slated for fall 2021. Schulner previewed, "We're not pulling any punches here. I would say there are five cliffhangers this year." With the success of the show, the cast must be quite busy filming their upcoming seasons, so do they even have time for personal relationships? Let's find out about the partners and love lives of "New Amsterdam" stars.
Ryan Eggold appears to be single
Ryan Eggold is seemingly single these days, although it's hard to tell as the actor does keep a low profile out of the public eye. Yet, he is no stranger to high-profile romances in that he was rumored to have dated "Twilight" star Ashley Greene, "The Girl on the Train" actor Haley Bennett, and his "The Blacklist" costar Megan Boone. While Eggold never confirmed any of those romances, he did tell Page Six that he once had a girlfriend who lied about being engaged. He revealed, "She wasn't actually engaged. It was an empty threat, which is even more crazy."
Most recently, Eggold was linked to "Today" show lifestyle correspondent Jill Martin after Page Six reported that the two were spotted together in summer 2020. They were reportedly seen spending time together in the Hamptons. It was later revealed through Eggold's rep that the two had been friends for years through their NBC connection.
While Eggold is secretive about his love life, he did open up to the Daily Telegraph about how he has a hard time with relationships. He explained, "I am an old man. I go for the quiet. I wouldn't say I handle attention well, I'd say I stumble over pick-up lines poorly. I'm not good at any of that." He added, "I'm not equipped for the social media thing." We have a feeling that despite Eggold's supposed limitations, the handsome "New Amsterdam" star would have no problem getting a date.
Janet Montgomery married her husband in 2019 after welcoming their daughter
"New Amsterdam" star Janet Montgomery became a wife and mother after an eventful 2019. The actor who plays Dr. Lauren Bloom married her now husband, Joe Fox, in Jamaica in November of that year. According to People, Montgomery had been dating the creative director and copywriter for over two years before the two tied the knot. She posted a photo of the wedding on her Instagram writing in part, "On the 29th of November 2019 I made an honest man of my best friend and the love of my life. This was one of the greatest days of my life."
Another great day happened earlier that year in March, when their daughter, Sunday, was born. The actor, who of course plays a doctor on TV, also made a point to thank the doctors who helped her through her delivery. In another post, she wrote in part, "I want to say a huge thank you to the wonderful nurses and doctors at New York Presbyterian Labor and Delivery" adding, "Not only are they all great at their jobs but they go the extra mile with love for their patients."
Of course, Montgomery praised Fox as well, telling People, "I've always wanted to be a mother but didn't expect to be lucky enough to do this with my best friend." The two even have matching tattoos. She shared a photo of her husband's tattoo with the caption, "Find a man who loves you this much. Don't settle for less."
Freema Agyeman's relationship status is unclear
Freema Agyeman, who plays Dr. Helen Sharpe on "New Amsterdam," is just as good as keeping her love life under wraps as her costar and onscreen love interest Ryan Eggold. While if she's currently dating somewhere remains unclear, we do know a little about Agyeman's dating past.
According to Meaww, "The Carrie Diaries" actor was once engaged to a real estate agent only known as James, whom she began dating in 2007 before she became a star. Their engagement didn't last and Agyeman went on to date "Game of Thrones" actor Luke Roberts in 2010. Agyeman seemingly confirmed this romance on her Instagram in 2015 by posting a photo of Roberts with the caption, "It's Saturday evening. We don't wanna go out. So my boy is baking me a cake!!!" She last posted about him in 2016 where she showed them having brunch and referred to him as "bae." It appears the two have since broken up because not only does Agyeman no longer post about him, Roberts now posts about his current partner, Canadian actress Mouna Traoré.
While Agyeman's personal life is keeping us guessing, so does the love life of her character on "New Amsterdam." Fans can't get enough of Dr. Sharpe's chemistry with Dr. Goodwin. Yet executive producer, David Schulner, told TV Line, "The audience doesn't need to worry — there's going to be plenty Max-Sharpe moments and scenes and we'll always keep exploring their relationship."
Jocko Sims is single but for his character it's complicated
"New Amsterdam" star Jocko Sims appears to be single, so it's safe to say the actor is focusing mainly on his work, which is currently playing Dr. Floyd Reynold on the hit NBC show. While he has remained mum on his own dating life, Sims is happy to discuss how he feels about his character dating a woman this season who is married but in an open relationship. He told TV Insider about his character's plot, saying, "He'll be having a little fun, which is unique for Reynolds, right? And a con against that would be, here we are again, where this is not in line with the vision that he has for himself, his future, and regarding family especially, if he gets involved or entangled in some strange situation."
When Sims isn't discussing the show, he recently has been promoting Red Nose Day, which helps children in need. He told E!, "Just the fact that they're looking out for children and working to end child poverty, I think it's very, very crucial."
Outside of his work, Sims appears to be living in New York City where he frequently posts photos on Instagram of himself with his dogs, working, or out and about. He also recently posted about a trip to Miami where in one photo he showed off his muscles. With his dedication to his work, his kind heart and those obvious good looks, whoever Sims eventually chooses as a partner will be very lucky.
Tyler Labine is married to another actor
Actor Tyler Labine plays the married Head of Psychiatry Dr. Iggy Frome on "New Amsterdam" and in real life, the actor is married as well. Labine married fellow actor Carrie Ruscheinsky in 2007. According to her IMDb, Ruscheinsky is best known for her work in "X Files: I Want to Believe" in 2008, as well as "R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour" in 2010. She also had a role in the 2007 comedy "Hot Rod."
Ruscheinsky's last acting credit appears to be in 2015. While it's unclear if she quit acting, she did go on to have three children with Labine. The "Deadbeat" actor's children are featured frequently on his Instagram, while Ruscheinsky keeps more of a low profile. Yet, in early 2021, Labine posted a photo of his family, which seemed to include his wife.
Ruscheinsky also continues to stand by Labine's side while he battles an eating disorder on and off screen. Labine's real-life battle with disordered eating made its way on to "New Amsterdam." Labine told People, "It's been really cathartic to embark on this journey with Iggy." As for his wife, she apparently opened Labine's eyes to getting help. He explained, "I was talking to my wife, and she said, 'You'll never be happy with your body.' She also pointed out that my having a vegan protein shake or a diet-plan meal for dinner wasn't sending a healthy message to our kids. I knew it was time to look into getting help."
