A Timeline Of Lady Gaga And Taylor Kinney's Relationship
Lady Gaga's personal life has been tabloid fodder ever since she first stepped into the Hollywood scene. From breakups to makeups, her romances have always made the news — particularly her relationship with actor Bradley Cooper. After filming "A Star Is Born" in 2018, fans speculated whether the two co-stars had struck up a romantic relationship because of their convincing portrayal as lovers and their undeniable chemistry both on and off-screen.
Though the singer denied being in love with Cooper on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," she's been in love a few times. These days, Gaga is dating Michael Polansky, an entrepreneur and Harvard graduate the pop star is reportedly "crazy about," according to People. But who did she date before him? Gaga has been in some notable relationships with other men, including talent agent Christian Carino, audio engineer Dan Horton, and ex-fiancé Taylor Kinney.

The couple met on the set of Lady Gaga's music video
Lady Gaga met Taylor Kinney in 2011 on the set of her music video for "Yoü and I," where he played her love interest. Years later, the actor revealed what it was like to film the video with the singer. "We had a good time. I think there was chemistry," he told Andy Cohen in 2015. "We were shooting until 4 or 5 in the morning or something like that, and we exchanged information. A few weeks went by and we kept in touch, and then that's that." Clearly, sparks flew between them because a few months later they went public with their romance, per E! News.
In 2013, the Grammy winner opened up about finding love with Kinney and how happy she was to be with someone who supported her career and understood the industry. "When you meet someone that's not intimidated by the amazing people that are around you [or] by the love that you receive — that's love," Gaga told Fashion. "Men weren't always happy for me. It was very challenging to watch a woman be so successful."
Taylor Kinney proposed to Lady Gaga on Valentine's Day
After nearly four years of dating, Taylor Kinney proposed to Lady Gaga on Valentine's Day 2015 with a heart-shaped diamond ring. The singer shared details about her engagement ring via Instagram, writing, "My favorite part of my engagement ring, Taylor and Lorraine designed 'T [heart] S' in white diamonds on the band. He always called me by my birth name. Since our very first date. I'm such a happy bride-to-be! I can't stop smiling!!"
At the time, the couple's engagement seemed inevitable since they were so smitten by one another. "I really can't imagine being with anyone other than who I'm with right now," Gaga told Howard Stern (via E! News) right before the proposal. "He is the right guy. I have that feeling. I just know it."
After telling Ellen DeGeneres she and Kinney "complement each other's weirdness" (per E! News) the pop star gushed about how happy to be with someone who loved her for who she was. "I never thought anyone would ever love me because I felt like my body was ruined by my abuser," she captioned an Instagram post in February 2016. "But he loves the survivor in me. He's stood by me all night proud and unashamedly. THATS a real man."
Unfortunately, the pair called it quits just a few months later.
Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney broke up one year after their engagement
In July 2016, Lady Gaga announced that she and Taylor Kinney were splitting up after five years together.
"Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break," she wrote alongside a photo of them hugging on Instagram. "We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other."
Despite Gaga claiming that the two were simply "taking a break," they never reunited romantically. Two years later, it was later revealed in her Netflix documentary, "Gaga: Five Foot Two," that the couple had been fighting in the months leading up to their breakup.
"Me and Taylor are fighting, so that sucks," she said (via Life & Style). "My threshold for bulls**t with men is just — I don't have one anymore. In relationships, you have to move together." She also alluded to the fact that her success and career may have contributed to the split, revealing that they called off their engagement soon after she landed the role in "A Star Is Born." She said (via Refinery29), "I did a movie and lose Taylor. ... This is the third time I've had my heart broken like this."
These days, the two still appear to be on good terms after Gaga said she loved her ex-fiancé while campaigning with Joe Biden, per Glamour.
