The True Meaning Behind 'I Did It' By DJ Khaled Ft Post Malone, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby & DaBaby
DJ Khaled has contributed a lot to the rap industry. He's given us some of our favorite collaborations, including Bryson Tiller and Rihanna's "Wild Thoughts" and "Wish Wish" by Cardi B featuring 21 Savage. The music mogul is following up his momentous work in hip-hop with his 12th studio album, "Khaled Khaled," a name that translates from Arabic to "immortal." The self-titled album was released on April 30, 2021. The 14-track project features guest appearances from stars such as Justin Bieber, Roddy Ricch, and Lil Baby.
"Khaled Khaled" received great critical acclaim. The album's release marks his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 94,000 equivalent album units. The three lead singles on the album saw great success, with "Greece" and "Popstar" debuting at number three and number eight on the charts. The third single from the album, "I Did It" featuring Post Malone, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby & DaBaby, holds a dear meaning to DJ Khaled. Here's the real meaning behind the song.
'I Did It' is about celebrating your victories
When DJ Khaled isn't putting attention-grabbing collaborations together, he is social media's favorite motivational speaker. The entertainer is channeling the same positive energy into his song, "I Did It." Prior to the release, DJ Khaled teased what we could expect from the evergreen track. "It's one of those records where, like, after a Super Bowl win, or an NBA championship, any accomplishment," he explained to Billboard. "The last time I felt like this was 'All I Do is Win."
Featuring an all-star group of rappers over a sample of Derek and the Dominos' 1971 single "Layla," the song is intended for us to celebrate our accomplishments and reflect on beating the odds. As its echoed in the chorus by Khaled and Post Malone, "Stayed down 'til I came up/ I did it, I did it, I did it/ Ten toes and never changed up."
Megan Thee Stallion takes on the first verse reminding her haters that she'll always be a main topic as long as they keep talking about her. In the meantime, she's "tryna win, don't care how I do it." Lil Baby echoes the same sentiments, but uses the second verse to rap about enjoying the fruits of his labor in his youth. He raps: "My climax ain't even nowhere near it/I stayed down and I stayed down/And I came up, I had faith in my spirit."
On the third verse, DaBaby reflects on his past and how "proud" of himself he is for going from having nothing to being able to afford things, such as Prada shoes. "I Did It" reminds us to take a moment to celebrate where we are. If you haven't heard it today: you did it!
