A True Timeline Of Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner's Relationship
While the world knows Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez as the OG "Bennifer," another Jennifer who had Affleck's heart was Jennifer Garner. The two initially met and became friends on the set of "Pearl Harbor" in summer 2000, but they did not fall in love until two years later when they filmed "Daredevil."
"We fell in love on 'Daredevil,'" Affleck told Playboy, via Insider. "By the way, she won most of the fights in the movie, which was a pretty good predictor of what would happen down the road — my wife, holding swords and beating the living sh** out of me."
Although Garner and Affleck fell for each other on "Daredevil," they couldn't make their love known, as the former was married to actor Scott Foley and the latter was engaged to Lopez. The two ended their relationships in 2003 and 2004 respectively.
A few months after Affleck's split with Lopez, he and Garner made it official and publicly attended the 2004 World Series as a couple. They got engaged after a year of dating in April 2005 and were married in June of the same year. Garner then gave birth to their first child, daughter Violet, in December 2005. The couple expanded their brood when they welcomed daughter Seraphina in January 2009 and son Samuel in February 2012, per E! News.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's fairytale romance ended in 2015
Although Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner created a beautiful family together, their marriage was in trouble in the summer of 2015, when Affleck was accused of cheating on his wife with their nanny Christine Ouzounian. Insider reported that Affleck left Garner during a family vacation and flew to Las Vegas with Ozounian in July 2015, but Affleck denied the allegations. However, he and Garner confirmed their split a month later after 10 years of marriage.
In a joint statement released to People (via The Wrap) at the time, the couple said, "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding."
While there were rumors about them reconciling in 2017, they ultimately filed for divorce in April of that year, per Us Weekly. Affleck later cited his addiction issues as one of the reasons for their divorce and told The New York Times in 2020 that the divorce was "the biggest regret of my life."
Things, though, seem to be working out for the ex-couple as they co-parent their children. Garner revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in March 2021 that she doesn't worry about Affleck anymore and that they'll dance at their daughters' weddings.
