How Much Is Joe Exotic Actually Worth?
In 2020, Netflix had us on the edge of our seats as we watched "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness" — an eight-part documentary focused on the rise and fall of wild animal enthusiast Joe Exotic. Exotic, born Joseph Allen Schreibvogel, claimed to be the nation's most prolific breeder of tigers. As we've seen from the documentary, Exotic's life was nothing short of unconventional: he was once illegally married to two men and had an intense rivalry with Big Cat Rescue founder and CEO Carole Baskin.
Exotic's dislike for Baskin unfortunately cost him his freedom. The New York Post reported that the flamboyant tiger breeder was sentenced to a 22-year prison sentence in Fort Worth after being charged with 17 counts of animal abuse and two counts of murder for hire in his role to have Baskin murdered. Exotic and his private investigator Eric Love attempted to reach former President Donald Trump to pardon the former before the end of his term on Jan. 20, 2021. Sadly, Exotic missed the mark. Joe Exotic's fall from grace wasn't an easy one. His actions not only cost him his animal park, but it also cost him his money. Here's how much Joe Exotic is worth.
Joe Exotic's net worth is lower than you think
Joe Exotic has 99 problems, and money is definitely one. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Exotic's net worth is -$1 million. Exotic was previously ordered to pay Carole Baskin $1 million in a trademark dispute. As a result, Baskin was awarded control over Exotic's zoo properties, per CNN. To add insult to injury, Baskin also has control over several cars and houses on the property. As you can imagine, Exotic isn't very happy about losing to his nemesis.
Despite his obvious distaste for Baskin, Exotic is willing to accept an offer from Baskin if it means it'll help him get out of prison. In April 2021, Baskin's husband Howard told The Mirror he'd be willing to help Joe Exotic gain his release from prison if he would support the Big Cat Public Safety Act. "If he were to do that, it might position him in a positive way for a pardon. And frankly, I might be willing to go and urge at least a reduction in his sentence," Howard detailed.
Exotic revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he was willing to accept the offer. Of course, Exotic's response clearly states how he feels about the Baskins regardless: "It is time for Carole and Howard to put up or shut the hell up because I'm accepting their offer." Exotic said, "This wasn't really about murder for hire or shooting five tigers — this was about exploiting Joe to support Carole's agenda." Yikes.
