Who Is Pepa's Daughter, Egypt Criss?
WE tv's "Growing Up Hip-Hop" introduces hip-hop fans to the children of some of their favorite stars and gives them a glimpse into the lives of the next generation of hip-hop royalty. But a lot of those glimpses are getting cut short, as cast members keep leaving the show in droves.
In March 2020, Master P and his son Romeo Miller — the first stars to depart from the series — discussed their decision to quit on "The Breakfast Club." "I feel like the show is not going where it used to be at," Master P said (via HipHopDX). Although both Master P and Romeo were executive producers on the show, they grew tired of the show's constant push for manufactured drama. "Reality [TV] thinks the only way to be successful is to see drama. The truth is me and my pops, we butt heads, but at the end of the day, I mean we gonna keep it 100 with each other," Romeo said.
That same month, rapper Bow Wow announced on Instagram that he was leaving the series. In May 2020, Egypt Criss — daughter of Salt-n-Pepa's Pepa — announced she was leaving the show. What sparked Egypt's decision to leave, and what is she up to now?
Egypt is engaged and making music
Egypt Criss is the daughter of Salt-n-Pepa's Pepa and Naughty By Nature's Treach. The self-professed singer, actor, and model is engaged to musician Sam Mattick (aka Sammattick), which became the source of much drama on "Growing Up Hip-Hop," as CheatSheet reports that Egypt's friends often questioned Sam's true intentions. Egypt's relationship with Sam was the catalyst for a fight with fellow castmate Briana Latrise, which culminated with Egypt punching Briana in the face.
After this fight, Egypt announced she was leaving the show, writing, "I respect myself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves me, grows me or makes me happy."
Egypt and Sam appear to still be together. In April 2020, Egypt told Hollywood Life that her wedding date was set for May 7, 2021, although neither Egypt nor Sam has posted photos from the wedding or even indicated they actually tied the knot. Egypt did, however, post a Mother's Day appreciation photo on May 9, calling her mother "one of the strongest women I know."
Egypt seems interested in following her parents' footsteps, working to launch a music career. Her YouTube channel is full of covers she's performed, as well as two official music videos, "RUN" featuring her fiance, and "Our Time," released in January 2021.
