How Much Is Taika Waititi Really Worth?
Taika Waititi is the Kiwi director behind "Thor" and won an Oscar for his "Jojo Rabbit" screenplay. But before Waititi burst onto the Hollywood scene, he found his rhythm in college with the comedy ensemble So You're a Man, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The group was credited as a precursor to the hit TV series "Flight of the Concords," per The New York Times. Waititi was also one part of the comedy duo The Humourbeasts.
Although Waititi has won over 40 awards, he still gets recognized for his role of Thomas Kalmaku in the 2011 film "Green Lantern." The 45-year-old looks back at the experience with a sense of humor. "I find it really funny that I did that film," the multi-hyphenate talent told Cinema Blend in May 2020. "The thing is, it's like when people shy away from things, and they don't want to admit they've done something, or they don't ever reference it, I find it worse."
If Waititi has to laugh at his previous work, he can certainly be proud of his work since then. One would think a director like Waititi would have a massive fortune in the bank. Keep reading for more details.
Taika Waititi is worth less than you think
Taika Waititi is worth $3 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The director has starred in several movies, including "A New Way Home," "Futile Attraction," and "What We Do in the Shadows." He has had a hand in the production of plenty of his films, including "Eagle vs. Shark", "What We Do in the Shadows," and "Moana."
"Moana" went on to gross over $600 million worldwide and although Waititi wrote the original script, he left the film after he had a child. "I basically didn't want to be living [in the U.S.], working in an office, writing someone else's movie," he told The Guardian in 2017. Waititi did say he was pleased with the final film. "I was relieved it was not insulting to Pacific cultures. That was a big worry for me."
In February 2021, Waititi and his ex-wife Chelsea Winstanley listed their luxurious Los Angeles home for $2.75 million, according to The Dirt. They reportedly purchased the home in 2018 for $2.4 million. Although the former couple "quietly separated" in 2018 (via Page Six), divorce proceedings are costly and could have impacted Waititi's earnings.
When Waititi isn't directing, he's volunteering. In 2015, he participated in the Cure Kids charity single to raise money for conditions affecting children and has supported charities fighting child poverty, according to New Zealand Awards. He also read installments of Roald Dahl's "James and the Giant Peach" in May 2020 to raise money for Partners in Health in the fight against coronavirus, per The Guardian.
