Where Nikki Webster From My 600-Lb Life Is Now
The hit TLC series "My 600-lb Life" follows morbidly obese individuals on their weight loss journeys as they work with Dr. Younan Nowzaradan (aka Dr. Now), and his year-long program. That being said, not all of his patients are as successful or as optimistic about the experience and the work required as Season 4 cast member Nikki Webster.
When Nikki appeared on the show in 2016, the then-33-year-old Arkansas native weighed nearly 650 pounds and had been banned from seeing her nieces and nephews in case her weight "distressed" them (per the Daily Mail). "Food is an addiction to me, and my addiction is killing me," she said in an insightful monologue on the episode. Seemingly desperate for Dr. Now's help, she lost 50 pounds to meet the requirements and prove that she was ready to do the work in his program. Dr. Now agreed to perform gastric bypass surgery on Nikki, and she lost 200 pounds over the following year.
However, she still had a long road ahead. As she explained to People, "balancing and being consistent" is the most difficult, and important, part of her weight loss work. Her demanding career as a costume designer was in jeopardy because of her weight, but balancing it with "the social lifestyle that [she has] now," and "putting [herself and her] health" first is definitely important to her.
So, how successful was Nikki with her weight loss? Keep reading after the jump to find out.
Nikki Webster changed her life and found love
Nikki Webster's life-changing gastric bypass surgery did, in fact, mean changing her life. "It's hard to imagine now how I used to live," she told People in 2017 when her "My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?" episode aired. Besides planning what she eats and following a workout routine, she's also had to change her way of thinking. "I've had to learn new coping mechanisms," she explained, as for years, food was her coping mechanism. "Now I've just learned to deal with [problems] in healthier ways." She said that talking to people, including a therapist, has helped her handle daily frustrations.
One such setback came soon after her surgery, replacing Nikki's optimism with debilitating fear. She needed additional surgery to remove the excess skin but was afraid after a dear friend died from gastric bypass complications (via the Daily Mail). But thanks to Dr. Now and the fact that she regularly works with a therapist, she had the surgery and continued losing weight. By the end of her follow-up episode, she had lost 455 pounds, reaching a weight of 194 pounds.
Nikki is now married to Marc Gray, the young man she went on a date with in her episode after having "accepted the fact that [love] was never going to happen." She posted an adorable wedding day photo on Instagram in 2018, writing, "Am ridiculously and blissfully in love and happy with married life. Seriously. We're gross." These days, she's making jewelry and keeping up her healthier ways, with her weight reportedly "now in the low 200-lb's," per TV Shows Ace.
