90 Day Fiance: How Michael Really Feels About Angela's Weight Loss
In the world of reality TV — which is inherently full of ill-fitting couples — one couple stands out above all the rest: Angela Deem and Michael llesanmi of "90 Day Fiancé" fame. And that's saying something, considering the show basically operates on the assumption that nothing makes better TV than failing relationships.
Let's back up, though. Angela was a middle-aged divorcee living in the U.S. when she met Michael, a 20-something from Nigeria, online. Adding another layer of weirdness to the mix — besides the large age gap — was the fact that Angela thought Michael might be a scammer (i.e. he might be interested in her simply to gain his visa and/or money), but she married him anyway.
Another major point of contention was Angela's desire to get weight loss surgery. In an incredibly awkward season reunion during which the cast joined via Zoom (thank you, COVID), Angela told Michael, who was stuck in Nigeria, that she would be undergoing weight loss surgery whether he liked it or not.
Now, as we eagerly await the next season of "90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After," Angela has shared the news that she got the surgery and dropped 100 lbs, per Monsters and Critics. Was Michael supportive? Well, that's a complicated question.
Angela and Michael couldn't see eye-to-eye
Angela Deem opened up about her 100-lb weight loss and the tension it caused in her relationship with Michael llesanmi when speaking to Entertainment Tonight in April 2021. "I'm just so glad that I did it because my health is so much better now," said Angela, who has been candid about her health struggles in the past. "I feel like if I didn't have the surgery that I was going to have a heart attack."
"If you feel like your health is going to drag you down and if I can help anybody go do this surgery ... I mean, it is dangerous, but it's dangerous not getting it," she added.
As for Michael, he reportedly did not share Angela's excitement about the weight loss results. "He was a total a**," she said. "I can tell you that I was in this alone." Angela added that she was not sure if Michael was distant when she underwent the five consecutive weight loss surgeries because he had previously made it known he was against them or because he was in Nigeria at the time.
Before you start thinking Michael didn't like any of Angela's surgeries, though, the reality star admitted there was one enhancement he really enjoyed. "You know, I did my boobs, and he loved my boobs," she said... so at least there's that.
