Who Is Bindi Irwin's Husband, Chandler Powell?
Australian television personality Bindi Irwin may have risen to fame as the daughter of Steve and Terri Irwin, but she has since carved a career of her own. According to The Guardian, she won "Dancing with the Stars" at the age of 17 in November 2015, and currently stars in her own family reality show, "Crikey! It's the Irwins."
Bindi is happily married to her husband, Chandler Powell, who she walked down the aisle with on March 25, 2020. According to Brides, the couple tied the knot at an intimate wedding at the Australian Zoo, with only her brother, Robert Irwin, and mom in attendance.
Chandler proposed to Bindi the day after her 21st birthday. The day before, he shared a touching tribute to his then-girlfriend on July 23, 2021, via Instagram. "Beautiful Bee, I love you so much. You're my best friend and whole world. I can't wait to celebrate your birthday tomorrow at #AustraliaZoo," he said. "Here's to another year and beyond of life changing adventures together."
Bindi's relationship with Chandler has been well-documented over the years. On their first wedding anniversary, the duo welcomed their first child, daughter Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, per ABC. Keep reading to find out more about Bindi's husband.
Chandler Powell is not from down under
Unlike his wife, Chandler Powell is not Australian, according to Hollywood Life. Born in Seffner, Fla., he reportedly got a major in marketing at the University of Central Florida. Aside from being married to a high-profile Australian star, Chandler is most known for being a former professional wakeboarder. He started to play professionally at the age of 15 and has apparently called it a day due to having not raced since 2016.
In an interview with People in 2018, Chandler explained that it was wakeboarding that brought him and Bindi Irwin together. While in Australia for an event, he visited the Australian Zoo and was introduced to his future partner. "It just so happened that Bindi was giving tours that day," he said. "I'm like, 'Wow she is amazing,'" adding, "We haven't looked back since."
Bindi told the publication that her husband shares a lot of the qualities, her deceased father, Steve Irwin, had. "He loves wildlife and conservation and he has this strength," she said. "Which is necessary when you're jumping on crocs."
