The Sad Reason Prince Andrew Gifted Queen Elizabeth With New Puppies
Prince Philip was laid to rest on April 17, 2021 in Saint George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. The late Duke of Edinburgh was transported in a Land Rover while only 30 close family members attended the funeral due to coronavirus restrictions. Queen Elizabeth II mourned her "strength and stay" of 73 years as she sat alone in a pew during the ceremony.
The queen opened up about the loss of her husband, saying she and the rest of the royal family have been "deeply touched" by the public's tributes to Philip, according to People. Buckingham Palace released her message where she wrote, "I have, on the occasion of my 95th birthday today, received many messages of good wishes, which I very much appreciate. While as a family we are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to us all to see and to hear the tributes paid to my husband, from those within the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world."
She continued, "My family and I would like to thank you all for the support and kindness shown to us in recent days. We have been deeply touched, and continue to be reminded that Philip had such an extraordinary impact on countless people throughout his life."
The queen might be mourning, but her son Prince Andrew cheered her up in the sweetest way. Keep reading for more details.
Queen Elizabeth shares a strong bond with her dogs
Puppies are the key to a mother's heart, according to Prince Andrew. When Prince Philip was hospitalized in February 2021, the 61-year-old "surprised his mom with two new puppies when she felt down and alone in the castle," according to The Sun. Queen Elizabeth is known for walking her corgis all over the palace, but did not want to get new dogs because she "feared she was getting too old."
She's head-over-heels for corgi Muick and dachshund-corgi cross Fergus and takes them for daily walks around Frogmore House. According to Town & Country, Fergus is named for her uncle Fergus Bowes-Lyon who was killed during World War I, and Muick is reportedly named after Loch Muick on the Balmoral estate in Scotland where the queen spends the summer with her family.
Although Andrew was reportedly the queen's favorite son, he stepped down from royal duties after he was reportedly linked to the disgraced Jeffrey Epstein, per The Sun. He is allegedly trying to make a fresh start and has been a "rock" for his mother after the death of Philip, according to Page Six.
