The Tragic Death Of Mark And Donnie Wahlberg's Mom, Alma
If you're a fan of Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg, then you know family means everything to the celebrity sibling duo. The Daddy's Home actor and the Blue Bloods star were raised by their late parents, dad Donald Wahlberg and mom Alma Wahlberg (née Donnelly), and even though Mark and Donnie grew up to be well-known Hollywood stars, the two never forgot the true meaning of coming home.
Donnie paid tribute to his beloved matriarch when they announced her death on April 18, 2021. The New Kids on the Block singer said he feels "so blessed to have been brought into this world by, raised by, taught by and set on my life's path by, such an amazing woman." He also praised Alma for being, "without a doubt, the most loving human being I've ever known."
Donnie and Mark have seven other siblings — including Arthur, Paul, Jim, Robert, Michelle, Debbie, and Tracey Wahlberg — so Alma certainly had her hands full raising her nine children. However, the Sixth Sense actor said his mother "pulled off the impossible" for her kids and "never complained." He added, "She did what needed to be done, most often, with a smile. She made the best of times in the worst of times."
Mark also honored his mom's memory by posting a beautiful throwback photo of Alma. The Ted star kept his caption short and sweet, writing, "My angel. Rest in peace." For more details on the tragic death of Alma, keep scrolling.
Mark and Donnie Wahlberg's Mom, Alma, suffered from dementia
Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg shared the heartbreaking news of their mother Alma Wahlberg's death at age 78 on April 18, 2021. The pair held off from divulging too many details on the cause of death, but if you're familiar with the Wahlburgers stars, then you know Alma was battling dementia.
Donnie previously addressed his mother's ailing health on Instagram in July 2020. Alongside a photo of the two hugging, the Band of Brothers actor revealed Alma was suffering from dementia, though he noted she "still lights up" a room. "I know that so many of you have asked how my mom Alma is doing. During my visit, she didn't remember much, and was often confused, but somehow she was still Alma," he penned.
"She still made me smile. She's still stubborn. And she still loves her baby Donnie," the "Please Don't Go Girl" artist continued. "I thank you all, for your well wishes. Sending my heartfelt love, and sincerest wishes, to all those away from their loved ones. That you will be together again. Love you all so much. See you soon."
Donnie and Mark are heartbroken to say goodbye to their mother, but the Donnie Loves Jenny alum noted "it's time" for Alma "to rest peacefully." In his April 18 post, he added, "I love you, miss you, thank you and will celebrate you, today and always."
