Maggie Carey is an acclaimed TV writer and director
Bill Hader and Maggie Carey seemed like a match made in heaven. Per People, the two rising stars first met in Los Angeles through mutual college friends before relocating to New York City after Hader was cast on Saturday Night Live in 2005. The couple have three daughters together, which in part prompted Hader to leave the sketch show."When I was on SNL, I was a bit of a basket case. It could not have been easy on my wife at the time," Hader told Variety in 2019. "It was hard with one kid, let alone [three] because I was just never around."
Hader filed for divorce in 2017 after being married to Carey for 11 years. Per The Blast, the Barry creator cited irreconcilable differences, and the split was finalized in 2019. Hader told Variety that he is "still friends" with Carey post-breakup. Carey herself has made some changes in her career after parting ways with Hader. Carey is known for directing episodes of Silicon Valley, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Mr. Mayor (via IMDb), and in 2019, inked a deal with ABC Studios to create new content for Disney+, ABC, and Hulu. "Maggie is an incredible talent who has directed some of the funniest, most memorable episodes of our favorite comedies," ABC Studios President Jonnie Davis said, as reported by Deadline.
