Who Are Kaley Cuoco's Ex-Boyfriends?
Kaley Cuoco has made no secret of her love for her husband, equestrian Karl Cook. The couple first started dating in March 2016, according to Us Weekly, and Cook got down on one knee in November 2017, proposing to The Big Bang Theory star on her 32nd birthday. He gushed over his wife-to-be in an Instagram post that showed the moment he popped the question, writing, "Well after nearly two years I finally got up the courage to ask her to marry me. This is the best night of my life and I think the video shows it is the best night for kaley as well... if she said yes!" Cuoco confirmed on Instagram in July 2018 that they had, in fact, officially tied the knot when she shared a sweet photo of them kissing on their wedding day.
But it was not the easiest journey to find true love for The Flight Attendant actor and producer. Read on to find out more about Cuoco's somewhat bumpy road to forever.
A workplace romance was in the works for Kaley Cuoco
Fans may remember that things heated up on the set of The Big Bang Theory for Kaley Cuoco and one of her co-stars, as she and Johnny Galecki famously dated for about two years. But it was not an immediate connection, as Cuoco has revealed she had a massive crush on the actor when the show first started filming, but did not make her move because he had a girlfriend at the time. "I remember when we did the pilot I was just crushing so hard on Galecki. He had a girlfriend. I was obsessed," she recalled on Dax Shephard's Armchair Expert in November 2020, revealing they would hang out together platonically before eventually heading out for drinks.
Ironically, it was only after they called it quits that their characters started dating. Galecki played Leonard on the show, who Cuoco's character Penny ended up marrying. "Luckily, Johnny and I came out of it so brilliantly," she told Shephard while discussing their breakup, admitting she did not expect Leonard and Penny to start getting intimate quite so quickly. "I remember when we broke up, obviously it was a little sensitive for a minute, but I remember those weeks that Chuck [Lorre] had written these episodes where all of the sudden our characters were sleeping together every other second," she joked. Fortunately, it was all good for the pair, as Cuoco admitted they actually ended up being closer after their split than when they dated.
Karl Cook isn't Kaley Cuoco's first husband
Prior to marrying Karl Cook, Kaley Cuoco was actually wed to professional tennis player Ryan Sweeting for two years. The two had a pretty whirlwind romance, which saw them going from newly dating to married in just a matter of months. Per E! News, they began dating in August 2013 and Sweeting wasted no time, popping the question to The Flight Attendant star after only three months. Cuoco admitted she knew things moved fast, but said she knew from the start that she wanted to be with the athlete.
"From day one I just knew immediately and it's been magic... We grew up with the same people, we just never met. So I kind of feel that I've known him my whole life," she told Entertainment Tonight in September 2013. "I know that it seems a little crazy on paper, but it's what works for us." In keeping with their fast-paced relationship, E! News reported the now-former couple tied the knot on New Year's Eve 2013, just over four months after they started dating.
However, it was not meant to be. The couple stayed married for two years before calling it quits in September 2015 when Cuoco filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences" (via People). Cuoco — who had previously flooded her Instagram page of photos of the two — removed all snaps of Sweeting from her account, per E! News.
Kaley Cuoco had a brief romance with a superhero
Kaley Cuoco's dating history also included a superhero. Shortly before her whirlwind romance with Ryan Sweeting, the star hit the headlines for a high-profile but brief — and we mean brief — relationship with actor Henry Cavill, who's perhaps most famous for playing Superman in the DC Extended Universe or Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher.
A source confirmed to People on July 1, 2013 that the two had started dating "recently" and claimed that things were at "the beginning stages of a relationship and they're having a great time," while Us Weekly cited another insider as saying they were "totally hot for one another." On July 4, 2013, HuffPost published candid photos of the two walking around Los Angeles holding hands. But it was all over as quickly as it began. E! News reported on July 12, 2013 that the two had split after "a few dates," but were trying to remain friends.
Despite the briefness of their romance, the two have not exactly been able to escape their fling since. In December 2020, Cuoco was asked a pretty intimate question about the actor during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live after a fan questioned if the Man of Steel actor really was "made of steel." A blushing Cuoco replied, "Oh my God. I don't know. I never say, 'I don't know' — I always have an answer — but I don't know."
Who else has Kaley Cuoco dated?
Kaley Cuoco was engaged before she wed Ryan Sweeting and Karl Cook. In October 2011, People confirmed she was engaged to addiction specialist Josh Resnik, but they did not stay a betrothed couple for long. Cuoco confirmed in January 2012 that they had called off their engagement after she was asked by Entertainment Tonight if her co-star Kunal Nayyar's wedding had inspired her own. "I'm not engaged anymore, so no, but in general, yes. For my future wedding, yes!" she replied.
Cuoco also dated singer Brett Bolinger and the two were spotted kissing at a basketball game in March 2012 (via Us Weekly). However, PopSugar reported that they called it quits in January 2013. It seems the star may have a thing for musicians, as she also dated Christopher French between 2011 and 2012. French went on to marry High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale and they welcomed their first child in March 2021. Cuoco also got close with singer Jaron Lowenstein from 2005 to 2006.
Cuoco has also dated a couple of actors, per PopSugar. She was romantically linked to The Young and the Restless actor Thad Luckinbill in 2002, as he guest-starred on her first sitcom, 8 Simple Rules, and went on to date Kevin Zegers, her co-star in The Hollow, the following year. She was also rumored to have had a brief romance with Grosse Pointe actor Al Santos, and Us Weekly alleged she dated Arrow actor Paul Blackthorne in January 2013. We're just happy to see Cuoco has finally found true love with Cook!
