The Real Reason Sharon Stone May Quit Acting
Sharon Stone is a gift to the world and we do not deserve her — obviously — so why is she talking about quitting acting (again)? The first time Stone's acting career stalled was following a devastating stroke in 2001. While she was lucky to have survived, she lost nearly everything else. "[From] trying to keep custody of my son to just functioning — to be able to work at all," she said in a 2019 interview with Variety. "I had to remortgage my house. I lost everything I had. I lost my place in the business."
She said it took about seven years to recover from the stroke. And it was another ten years before her big acting comeback, starring in the HBO series Mosaic from 2017 until 2018. Now, Stone's shocking new memoir The Beauty of Living Twice — which details her experiences with trauma, abuse, sexual harassment, and multiple brushes with death — has put her in the spotlight once again. But as she revealed in an interview, her return to the screen may be short lived.
The reason? Stop us if you've heard this one before ...
Sharon Stone DGAF, basically
In an April 2021, interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Sharon Stone announced that she had been dropped by her agent. According to Stone, this was the reason: "I'm really hard to cast and there aren't roles for people my age. And, of course, I'm somewhat difficult."
For what it's worth, even if it wasn't exactly an active choice, Stone seems pretty chill about leaving the acting world behind her. She continued, "I really very much enjoyed being Sharon Stone. It was a great front. But I am enjoying being myself more." And, because she is Sharon Stone after all, she added a bit of her signature IDGAF attitude. "You don't like her? She's difficult? You're sick of her? Great. Throw her in the trash. I don't care. I'm done with her too."
In her memoir, Stone writes that while she still likes and enjoys acting, she doesn't have the same "hunger" for it that she once did. "People can tell and they like you hungry. Jeez, do they like you hungry. This town is keen for the hunger. It's like a zoo at feeding time all day long," she writes (via Entertainment Tonight). "But Mama's a big animal, so I guess I could have that hungry look anytime. Maybe I could even have the 'I could eat you' look, if you know what I mean."
So, is she really done forever? Who knows? Who cares? At least, that's seemingly Stone's attitude.
