Demi Lovato Almost Starred In A Different Disney Show
True Demi Lovato fans know the pop star got her start in Hollywood on the set of Barney & Friends with fellow celeb Selena Gomez. As kids, the two young stars got their first break together singing along with the big purple dinosaur. It wouldn't be long until both Lovato and Gomez would take over Disney before launching their own solo pop careers, but was it a smooth ride from childhood actors to Disney stars to pop singers?
Lovato landed her first big Disney gig with the Disney movie Camp Rock in 2008. A year later, her and childhood bestie Selena Gomez would share the Disney screen in Princess Protection Program. The two DCOMs seemingly pushed Disney into giving Lovato her own series, Sonny With a Chance. In the meantime, Lovato paired up with her Camp Rock co-stars, the Jonas Brothers, to start writing songs for her debut album Don't Forget (via IMDb).
For the fans that have stuck with Lovato from Camp Rock to Sonny With a Chance to her latest album Tell Me You Love Me in 2017, they might recall a time when Lovato, Gomez, and Miley Cyrus were the teenage queens of Disney Channel, having rumored feuds over boys and even auditioning for each other's shows. In fact, Lovato's story to fame almost had a very different beginning.
Demi Lovato auditioned for a different iconic role
With the 15th anniversary of Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, star of the show Miley Cyrus took to social media to thank her Disney role and celebrate with fans the series that gave us pop singer Miley Cyrus. Looking back at the beginning of the show's mass popularity, fans will find that Cyrus (despite being the daughter of country sensation Billy Ray Cyrus) wasn't the first Disney darling considered to play Miley Stewart.
"I started auditioning for commercials and television roles. Then around the age of 14, I tested for Hannah Montana," Lovato reportedly revealed in a past Cosmopolitan interview, according to J-14. "I wound up not getting it, but that's how Disney learned about me."
Luckily for Lovato, the audition led to her own Disney series and movie saga. The actor continued, "I kept reading for things, and I got a role in the Disney TV movie Camp Rock, co-starring with The Jonas Brothers, and the lead in Sonny With a Chance."
Imagine a world where Demi Lovato was living the best of both worlds on Hannah Montana. Would Miley Cyrus have been on Sonny With a Chance instead? Thankfully, we'll never know.
