What You Don't Know About John Boyega
No one can deny that John Boyega is a successful Hollywood star as well as the kind of celebrity who's set to do big things in the entertainment industry (and beyond) for years to come. Frankly, he's already done so much!
Along with appearing in films like 2011's Attack the Block, 2017's Detroit, and 2018's Pacific Rim: Uprising, per IMDb, most movie-lovers could likely tell you he scored the opportunity of a lifetime when he landed a role in the Star Wars franchise. You surely adored his performance as Finn in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.
On top of that, Boyega made headlines in June 2020 when he delivered "an emotional speech" about the topic of race after George Floyd was killed by police, according to NBC News. At the time, he felt like his activism might get him in trouble, saying, "Look, I don't know if I'm going to have a career after this, but f**k that." Instead, IndieWire noted that the actor received support from top directors like Jordan Peele and Guillermo del Toro.
While it's clear that Boyega is a buzzworthy star, there are still a few (super intriguing, wonderfully entertaining, and somewhat surprising) things that you might not know about the actor.
John Boyega is an animal lover (sometimes)
John Boyega found himself facing beings from all over the universe during his Star Wars days. However, he seems to interact with just as many real-life creatures, thanks to the fact that he appears to be an animal lover. Just take a peek at his Instagram account and you'll see him riding a horse while "flirting on the move." And that's not the only time he's been spotted on horseback. Of course, he likes other animals as well, including the pigs he hung out with at a coffee shop and the serious-looking pup he posed with for a photo.
As for Boyega's favorite critter, that is surely his feline friend. The actor popped up a pic of his purring pal with a stuffed buddy back in March 2016, writing, "My cat Oluwalogan and @kachumbarii chilling together and discussing real life issues. @theeyoung_king's monkey is the dude." But that doesn't mean that he loves all cats. In fact, Boyega made a parody trailer for the 2019 Cats movie that saw his face added on top of the actual performers in the film. He added a caption noting, "The litter box scene was absolutely disgusting to shoot." Oh. Ew!
If that sounds like an overly honest opinion, that may be because this famous figure is unable to avoid the truth.
John Boyega can act, but he can't lie
As an actor, it's John Boyega's job to delve into fictional stories and pretend to be someone else. But in real life, the star isn't interested in things that simply aren't true. When asked by The Guardian in March 2018 what he considers to be his "biggest failing," Boyega revealed it would be the way in which he responds "to certain things." For instance, he explained, "Sometimes somebody has a point, and I don't have time, and I'm like, 'What are you saying? Get straight to the point.'" He added that "sometimes you have to realize people aren't always like you."
Granted, that doesn't mean Boyega has any intention of changing his ways. In fact, because of his direct and incredibly honest nature, when it comes to dealing with what he deems to be the "little bit of bulls**t soup" that exists in the entertainment industry, he admitted, "I don't, I can't lie." There's obviously no doubt that Boyega is someone who stays true to himself in all circumstances. And that includes the fact that he just can't hide (and won't hide) his wildly stylish ways.
This movie star is super stylish
John Boyega may be known for his skills as a performer, but he should probably be just as famous for his fashion sense. Frankly, GQ pointed out in March 2021 that "off screen he's got one of the best wardrobes going."
In January of that same year, Esquire took a look at "some of the actor's greatest fits" and noted everything from the stunning West African agbada that he wore on the red carpet to his belted Ami overcoat and "striped hessian overshirt, embroidered with multiple swirling gold dragons a.k.a. the best thing you haven't worn in lockdown (yet)."
If this piques your style-loving interest, then you may want to follow Boyega on social media. That's because you'll see him over on Instagram in a black-and-white ensemble that boasts a Louis Vuitton touch, wearing a classic yet modern trench, and showing up in a cozy coat which is apparently perfect for "cold a** London." And can you even handle his swoon-worthy scarlet suit?! To top it all off, he seems to have just as much fun with his hair which he likes to switch up on a regular basis.
Honestly, this star is so good at achieving an on-point aesthetic style, it's not surprising at all that he's launched his own creative company, which is making big moves in the entertainment industry.
John Boyega launched a successful production company
If you love John Boyega's work on-screen as an actor, then you'll surely be interested in the fact that he uses his creative talents behind the scenes as well. Back in 2016, the star launched a production company that he called UpperRoom Entertainment Limited, per IMDb. Although that may not be a company that you are familiar with, UpperRoom has actually accomplished some pretty impressive things since it was first created.
For example, in February 2021, Deadline reported that the production company had "signed a first-look deal" with VIS Kids, which is the children's division of ViacomCBS International Studios. This meant that UpperRoom was set to "present three to five projects to VIS Kids for consideration to develop into long-form series."
That came after Netflix announced in March 2020 that they had entered into a partnership with UpperRoom "to develop non-English language films" that would be "based on stories, cast, characters, crew, literary properties, mythology, screenplays, and/or other elements in or around African countries, with a focus on West and East Africa."
Considering the fact that Boyega is clearly a success both on- and off-screen, you might assume that he's banked a fortune. While he definitely does have a decent amount of money, it may not be as much as you might think.
John Boyega is not as rich as you might assume
There's no doubt that John Boyega has what it takes to be a major player in show business. He's already starred in one of the biggest film franchises that Hollywood has ever released, thanks to Star Wars, and he has his own production company. That's why it may surprise you to find out that he's one of a number of Star Wars actors who are worth much less than you might have thought. In fact, he only has $6 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, which is pretty modest in comparison to what some other performers make in the industry.
However, while Boyega may be far from being a billionaire, he still manages to put what money he does have to good use. Just take a look at the fact that he used his funds to buy his parents a house. In July 2017, he talked to Entertainment Tonight about the purchase, saying, "I... think that's giving back to my king and my queen. So that's what I did." Due to the fact that the gift was a surprise, it's no wonder that his parents were both shocked and emotional when they were presented with their new home. And the (surely pricey) gesture was made possible by their hardworking, money-making, fabulously famous son.
