Sheryl Underwood's Net Worth: How Much Does The Talk Co-Host Make?

This article contains discussion of domestic violence and child abuse.

Sheryl Underwood successfully transitioned a solid career as a comic into a regular gig as a co-host of The Talk. Thanks to that lucrative daytime TV gig, Underwood has been able to build up a solid net worth, but she worked hard to overcome a challenging childhood to achieve this level of success. The Talk star's sad childhood in Arkansas was not an easy one, as she lost a twin sister in infancy and both suffered abuse and witnessed domestic violence in her home with her parents.

Underwood pushed forward and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, and she later credited the school for leading her to the career she built in the entertainment industry. "It was really here that I learned what I could be," Underwood shared with UIC Today of her time at the school. She then pursued a two-year stint in the Air Force Reserve before making waves as "the first female finalist in 1989's Miller Lite Comedy Search" (via Los Angeles Times). That achievement led her to various television performances and a strong comedy career before landing her co-host gig on The Talk in 2011.

Long before she landed on The Talk, however, Underwood saw a future much brighter than just the stand-up stage. She told Black Enterprise, "I love comedy. Comedy is my first love. But there was much more for me to accomplish beyond that scope — educationally and even professionally."

Sheryl Underwood's determination has led to a solid, stable paycheck

"With growth comes unfamiliarity and, sometimes, even adversity. But it beats being stagnant any day," Sheryl Underwood told Black Enterprise, proving he's never been one to sit still and stop reaching for bigger achievements. That desire for growth served her well. During her comedy days, she took charge to negotiate directly for herself and her team, noting that was "rare for a woman in this industry." Her confidence in herself and her abilities resulted in what is believed to be an impressive salary on The Talk.

According to The Sun, Underwood and her fellow co-hosts were given moderate raises of "up to five percent" in October 2020. It's not known exactly how much Underwood makes in her role on The Talk, however, prior to Sharon Osbourne's on camera blowout with Underwood, which effectively put The Talk on extended hiatus, Osbourne was reportedly earning $1 million a season and is the top paid woman of the group (per OK!).

New co-hosts Amanda Kloots and Elaine Welteroth are said to be earning less than half what Osbourne earns. In addition, Naughty Gossip detailed that Carrie Ann Inaba's contract was in the range of $500,000 per season. Given that, it's likely that Underwood's contract puts her at or slightly above Inaba's income, and surely significantly under Osbourne's. Celebrity Net Worth reports that Underwood's net worth is about $4 million, and her long-running stint with The Talk has surely been a significant driver of that impressive tally.
