Katy Perry Wants To Do This With Taylor Swift
For years, there have been rumors swirling about Katy Perry and Taylor Swift's complicated relationship. In fact, for a long time, the two were embroiled in a long-running feud that included Regina George subtweets, diss songs, and cryptic interviews about what led to their fallout.
According to the Folklore hitmaker, the drama had nothing to do with men, even though some news outlets theorized their feud all started because of John Mayer. Swift explained to Rolling Stone in 2014, "It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational — you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It's awkward, and I don't like it."
From there, music videos like "Bad Blood" and more subtweets, including Perry's response to Calvin Harris' truth bomb about Swift (per People), just added more fuel to the speculation regarding where their friendship stood. Then in 2016, Perry sent the internet into a frenzy when she addressed the possibility of collaborating with Swift. When one user tweeted, "Will you collab with Taylor swift," the pop star responded with: "if she says sorry, sure!"
Now, years later in 2021, Perry was one again asked about making music with Swift. Keep scrolling to see what she had to say this time around.
Is a Katy Perry/Taylor Swift collab ever going to happen?
After Katy Perry and Taylor Swift reconciled in 2018, the pair's friendship has been on the mend ever since. The reconciliation happened after the "Cardigan" singer received an actual olive branch and an apologetic note from Perry ahead of her first Reputation Stadium Tour show. "Hey Old Friend — I've been doing some reflecting on past miscommunications and hurt feelings between us," Perry wrote in the letter, per Time, in which she also says she's "deeply sorry."
Then, in 2019, the pop stars hugged it out in Swift's "You Need to Calm Down" music video, officially putting an end to the feud rumors for good. Since then, there's been nothing but good vibes between the two, which has fans wondering if a possible musical collaboration will happen in the near future.
Though Perry previously admitted to Capital Breakfast that she's "open" to the idea, there are no signs of a collab in the works. But during an episode of American Idol on March 22, 2021, the singer discussed the possibility of making music with Swift after watching contestants Althea Grace and Camille Lamb sing a cover of Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me," according to People. She told her fellow judges, "Can you imagine if Taylor and I work together, what we could do?"
Yes, Katy Perry, we can imagine this powerhouse collab happening.
