What Spencer From iCarly Is Doing Today
Back in the day, Spencer from iCarly was like the cool older brother we never had. So what is the actor who played him up to today?
Following in the footsteps of Teen Nick gems like Zoey 101 and The Amanda Show, iCarly debuted in 2007 and was an "iSensation!" Following Carly Shay (played by actor Miranda Cosgrove) and her web-series-creating cohorts Sam Puckett (Jennette McCurdy) and Freddie Benson (Nathan Kress), fans were in for a laugh a minute. And we also learned some valuable lessons about the power of sibling-hood from older brother Spencer Shay, played by Jerry Trainor. The floppy-haired, animated Spencer was not only Carly's brother but her guardian, as she lived with him in his nifty apartment, which was never short on hijinks and fun.
iCarly ran for an impressive seven seasons (that's basically Days of Our Lives-level in Nickelodeon years) and included guests like Emma Stone, Jimmy Fallon, and former first lady Michelle Obama. People were definitely bummed when the show wrapped in 2012 with a final episode titled, "iGoodbye," but it turned out to be more of an "iSeeYouSoon..."
Yup — Paramount+ has announced that the hit Nickelodeon comedy is set for a reboot though its platform. Though no premiere date has been announced, per Teen Vogue, Cosgrove, Kress, and Trainor have all been tapped to "iReturn" (no Jenette McCurdy...). We're pumped. But what has Trainor, aka Spencer, been doing in the meanwhile? Here's the answer.
Jerry Trainor has stayed busy since iCarly
So what has Jerry Trainor, aka Spencer Shay from iCarly, been up to? Ever since the beloved Nickelodeon show wrapped in 2012, the actor has stayed pretty busy, film and TV-wise.
Trainor had a voice role on the animated show T.U.F.F. Puppy from 2010 to 2015 and also voiced a character on TV's Bunsen Is a Beast in 2017. He also played a character on Netflix's No Good Nick and appeared on an episode of Disney Channel's Bunk'd. Since Trainor was so animated and lovable as Spencer, it's no wonder he kept finding work! You can also book the fella on Cameo if someone with a little "iNostalgia" has a birthday coming up!
In January 2021, Trainor, Miranda Cosgrove, and Nathan Kress shared a photo from the iCarly reboot set. They posed in front of a set wall that read, "iCarly Set 1," per People, giving fans a reason to be stoked! "Prepare yourselves," 44-year-old Trainor captioned the image on Instagram. Consider us prepared!
In March 2021, that same gang reunited on the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards red carpet, per Teen Vogue. "We need to celebrate [the reboot]!" Trainor said at the event. "I'm thinking balloons, fireworks, t-shirt cannons, confetti in the shape of our faces and then we throw an all-night pizza party paid for by someone else." Sounds like a plan! Seems like the actor has been doing well — and Jerry Trainor has the stunning net worth to prove it, too. We can't wait for more iCarly!
