Why Blake Shelton Won't Write Songs With Gwen Stefani Anymore
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are one of pop-culture's most-loved couples and are no stranger to making headlines. According to Billboard, the pair first met in April 2014 while both working on NBC's The Voice. Quickly after becoming friends, they formed a relationship and announced their love for one another in November of 2015 and have been happy ever since. In October 2020, Shelton finally got down on one knee and proposed to the former No Doubt frontwoman.
Their relationship has been well documented over the years, not just through headlines, but also through their songs. In fact, they have collaborated musically with one another several times. In 2017, Stefani released a Christmas album, You Make It Feel Like Christmas, and recorded the title track with Shelton. Two years later, the duo dueted on "Nobody But You," which topped the Country Airplay Chart. In 2020, they teamed up with each other again for "Happy Anywhere," which achieved the same feat on the same chart.
Despite enjoying working with one another, Stefani revealed something about Shelton during an interview for DJ Khaled's The First One podcast that shocked fans.
Blake Shelton doesn't want to write with Gwen Stefani
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have achieved a lot of success on their own through the years and have even started to score hit singles together. Stefani released a new single, "Slow Clap," in 2021 and has been creating new music for an upcoming album, according to Billboard.
During an appearance on DJ Khaled's The First One podcast in March 2021, Stefani revealed that Shelton doesn't want to help his wife write her new songs. "I wish he would write with me, but he doesn't really write anymore," Stefani said (via People). "We've actually written three songs together — we wrote a Christmas song together, and then we wrote two other songs."
"But he just doesn't like writing that much," she laughed. "It makes me so mad."
Stefani and Shelton's duet "Nobody But You" earned the couple an Academy of Country Music Awards nomination. While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in March 2021, Stefani said it was an "honor" to be able to work with Shelton and have success on the country charts.
