Demi Lovato's Ex-Boyfriends: Who Has The Star Dated?
Demi Lovato has been quite successful in her professional career, transitioning childhood television gigs into a huge singing career. When it comes to her love life, however, Lovato has had a more challenging road.
Distractify noted that Lovato's first high-profile relationship was in 2008 with Hannah Montana actor Cody Linley, and after that, she had a year-long romance with musician Alex DeLeon of The Cab. In addition, Trace Cyrus, the older brother of Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus, dated Lovato for a while when she was 16. After a few months, their 4-year age difference along with the geographical distance between Cyrus and Lovato led to a split, per People.
Lovato briefly dated her Camp Rock co-star Joe Jonas and they even did a feature for Teen Vogue. Soon after that, he broke it off and decided that they were meant to just be friends. Then, Wilmer Valderrama of That '70s Show became the object of Lovato's romantic affections. Lovato and Valderrama's romance was her longest, spanning a time period of six years. Lovato was just 18 when she started dating the then 29-year-old actor.
"I needed to learn to be okay on my own. When you get into a relationship with somebody at that young of an age and then you spend six years with somebody, you don't really get to learn about yourself," Lovato told Harper's Bazaar in 2020 of that romance ending and Valderrama's subsequent engagement to Amanda Pacheco. There period following this relationship allowed Lovato lots of room to explore.
A broken engagement provided clarity for Demi
A few short-lived romances followed as Demi Lovato tested out her chemistry with a handful of guys, per Distractify. She dated football player Odell Beckham Jr., Luke Rockhold, a UFC fighter, as well as MMA fighter Guilherme "Bomba" Vasconcelos. Rumors about a relationship with DJ Lauren Abedini swirled, and Lovato also briefly dated designer Henry Levy along with The Bachelorette veteran Mike Johnson and baseball player Austin Wilson.
In March 2020, Lovato was rumored to be with The Young and the Restless actor Max Ehrich. Things quickly escalated and the two got engaged just a few months later. Almost as quickly as they got engaged, Ehrich and Lovato split.
Lovato has previously talked about her sexuality, and it seems that exploring it became a significant focus after her split from Ehrich. "When I started getting older, I started realizing how queer I really am," she told Glamour in March 2021. She explained that she felt her split from her former fiance was a "huge sign" and that she then felt "this sense of relief that I could live my truth." Casual dating, rather than a focus on one specific relationship, seemed to feel like the right course to the singer from there. "My heart is pretty open. I'm very much listening to my intuition, and that's not to say my boundaries or my guard is up," Lovato explained of her pursuit of further romantic relationships down the road.
