Inside Mama June's Relationship With Her Boyfriend Geno Today
Mama June is known for being one of the most transparent reality stars in the industry. Viewers fell in love with watching her trainwreck lifestyle that was first featured on Toddlers and Tiaras. Through her daughter Honey Boo Boo, the family snagged their spin-off series Here Comes Honey Boo. On the show, viewers got an inside look into Mama June's drama-filled home life with her four daughters and her controversial partners. She faced backlash after she started dating her ex Mark McDaniel, thanks to him being a registered sex offender and serving time for having molested one of her family members, via TMZ.
In addition to having a controversial dating life, Mama June has struggled publicly with her weight and drug abuse issues. She's opened up about her addiction in her show Mama June: From Not to Hot. "[My drug of choice] has to be cocaine crack," revealed on the show, as captured by ET. "I started snorting it, lost my vision, and then I quit and then I went into using... just smoking crack. It's weird because if you snort it, it goes up in here."
Her revelation came one year after she and her boyfriend Eugene Edward "Geno" Doak were arrested in Alabama and charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. But, in a move toward recovery, Mama June and Geno returned to reality TV to share part of their journey to sober living.
Mama June and Geno packed on the 'healthy COVID weight'
Mama June and Geno Doak opened up about their new sober lifestyle in Mama June: Road to Redemption, via The Irish Sun. On the show, Mama June admits to them both gaining weight while quarantining together during the pandemic. "Look we have put on a little couple extra pounds," she said. "I've put on about 60. He's put on about 100. We put on a whole other person. But I'm going to blame it on healthy COVID weight."
While speaking with producers, Mama June got candid about how much she and Geno have been through together in the last two years. "So much has went on with us. We are now seven months sober. Can you believe that?" she asked. Her sobriety comes after she and Geno spent 30 days in rehab together, something their family therapist credited Geno for spearheading, via The U.S. Sun.
"Geno has been the driving force in their sobriety," Dr. Ish Major told the outlet. "He has come in and said, 'We got to do better.' She has followed his lead." Despite becoming estranged from her daughters by relocating to Florida to focus on her journey to sobriety, Mama June and Geno appear to be doing the necessary work to living a happy and healthy life together.
