Everything We Know About Pippa Middleton's New Baby
The royal family has been all drama recently, and most of the news hasn't been positive. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's own happy announcement that they were expecting their second child (recently revealed to be a little girl) was quickly overshadowed by the familial strife that dominated the press cycle for most of February and March 2021.
On March 7, 2021 Harry and Meghan gave what might be the most-anticipated interview since Princess Diana talked to the BBC nearly three decades ago. Joined by Oprah, and surrounded by the grounds of a beautiful California mansion, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opened up about the apparent horrors of life within the royal family, in which they openly discussed their allegations of racism by the family, as well as the palace's apparent lack of protection for Meghan and Archie — and even Harry.
So it's safe to say that the news hasn't been great. We are happy to report, though (and probably so is Buckingham Palace) that there is a little more positivity in the news today: the birth of Pippa Middleton's baby. Here's what we know.
Pippa Middleton pays homage to Kate with her baby's name
Kate Middleton has a new niece! Pippa Middleton, Kate Middleton's sister, welcomed her daughter in the early hours of March 15, 2021, per People. The little girl joins her older brother, Arthur, in Pippa's family. (Pippa has been married to husband James Matthews since 2017.) "Everyone is overjoyed at such a happy arrival" of the baby, who weighed 6 lbs., 7 oz. at birth, as per a People source. She was reportedly born at the same hospital where her brother and royal cousins were born as well.
While Pippa's children are not technically part of the royal family and don't have a title or a right to the throne, they are Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis' closest cousins. Technically, Harry and Meghan's son Archie (and soon-to-be-born baby girl) are equally as close, but as we said, relations between Harry and William are pretty frosty right now. Pippa and Kate, however, have always been exceptionally close, and the new baby's name seems to reflect that.
Pippa and husband James Mathews named the little girl Grace Elizabeth Jane Mathews. Very classic, but also very sweet when you learn the significance of it. "Elizabeth" is also the middle name of her aunt Kate. Kate's birth name was Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, and now Grace will be carrying on the Elizabeth legacy. (Not to mention the fact that Elizabeth is also the name of Kate's grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth.)
