Prince William's Statement Is A Much Bigger Deal Than We Thought

Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey accusing the royals of racism among other allegations, Prince William has spoken out denying the claims, telling Sky News (via People), "We are very much not a racist family," on March 11, 2021, and adding, "I haven't spoken to [Harry] yet, but I will do." But while this may seem normal to us Americans who are used to celebrity statements once scandals break, William's comment is entirely new for the royal family.

"Prince William's response is a big deal," Kinsey Schofield, founder of ToDiForDaily.com, a website about the British royal family, exclusively told Nicki Swift. "The royals tend to stick with the motto, 'Never complain, never explain,'" she said, adding, "I've heard that the queen was glad that the Duke of Cambridge responded — it is typically not in their nature to respond in an environment like this. This tells us that Prince William feels strongly about the denial and it was important to him to personally deny it as quickly as possible." William's statement asserts himself as the future king

Royals don't typically answer questions when hounded by the press in public mainly because it's viewed as "inappropriate and disrespectful," plus it usually takes away from the matter at hand, royal expert Kinsey Schofield exclusively told Nicki Swift. But she says it was vital for Prince William to speak his truth.

"This positions Prince William as the leader that the UK is seeking in an inevitable king. He was quick and strong in his defense of his family," Schofield expressed. "His tone was matter of fact. He strongly believes what he is saying. I felt like that was punctuated by his head nod," she added, referring to the footage of William responding to reporters.

"I have heard that he is very unhappy about the Oprah interview and the fact that he says he hasn't spoken to his brother yet tells me that he is looking to cool off before engaging in that conversation," the expert added. "Mountbatten-Windsor men are notorious for their tempers so this tells us that Prince William is mature enough to wait it out until things cool down."
