Megyn Kelly's Live Tweeting Of Meghan And Harry's Oprah Interview Has People Talking
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's much-anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey was full of jaw-dropping bombshells and Megyn Kelly was following along with it all as it aired on CBS on March 7, 2021, live-tweeting along with the rest of the nation. As promised, Meghan and Harry did not hold back as they sat down with Oprah in California. The pregnant former Suits actress opened up about a wide range of topics, including feeling suicidal during her time as a senior member of the British royal family, how there was a discussion about "how dark" their son Archie's skin would be before his birth, and the "turning point" in her relationship with her husband's very high-profile family that made her realize it was time to leave.
But what did Kelly say about the candid interview that has people talking, and why is she slamming both Meghan and Oprah following the tell-all? Keep reading to find out.
Megyn Kelly accused Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of throwing the royal family 'under the bus'
Never one to shy away from sharing her outspoken opinions, Megyn Kelly had plenty to say about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Oprah Winfrey interview on CBS. Her March 7, 2021 live commentary of the special received tens of thousands of likes and retweets, as well as plenty of attention. Kelly kicked off her tweeting spree with a skeptical take on Meghan, admitting she found it odd when the actor claimed she had not Googled Harry after they met and supposedly did not realize the difference between meeting the Queen and somebody famous. "Meghan Markle had no idea the Queen was different than a Hollywood celebrity? And she never googled Harry? Umm...," Kelly tweeted.
She then touched on Meghan's claims about someone in the royal family discussing the darkness of Archie's skin prior to his birth. Kelly urged Oprah to dig deeper to find out exactly who said it after Meghan declined to the name the person — she said it would be "very damaging to them" if she revealed their identity, per CBS News — to which Kelly wrote, "If Oprah doesn't ask Harry which family member allegedly told him they were worried about how dark Archie's skin would be, it will be a total dereliction of duty." By not naming names, Kelly went on to accuse Harry and Meghan of "basically [throwing] the entire Royal family under the bus."
Megyn Kelly slammed Oprah Winfrey for being 'too broad'
Though Oprah Winfrey claimed that no topic was "off limits" during her interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry (via The Mirror), Megyn Kelly was not exactly thrilled with every aspect of the chat, claiming Oprah was "too broad" when it came to questioning the couple after they did not get very specific on a few topics. "Oprah stayed too broad-I wanted more: 'who?...Be specific...what exactly did they say? Who was jealous of M after Australia? How did u know that? What do you mean ur family hasn't 'educated themselves' the way u have? They're racists? WHO?'" she tweeted on March 7, 2021, adding, "Eventually they'd have to get specific."
In turn, Kelly's live tweeting session received some mixed responses. While some fans appreciated her candor and dedication to tweeting the highlights of the interview for her followers, others were quick to jump to the couple's — and Oprah's, defense. "Ummm this why she is Oprah and you are sitting at the house tweeting," one Twitter user wrote in response to Kelly's tweet about the legendary talk show host being "too broad." However, another echoed Kelly's sentiment, writing, "I wanted to also know, why is Archie not a price [sic]? Why did they cut security? What do you mean by your brother and father are trapped? Too many follow-up questions which were missed."
Megyn Kelly continued to call out Meghan Markle on British TV
Megyn Kelly's controversial thoughts on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry did not stop with her flurry of tweets, though. She appeared on the British morning show Good Morning Britain on March 8, 2021, where she blasted Meghan for the sit-down while speaking to Piers Morgan and co-host Susanna Reid.
Kelly discussed an opinion piece from the New York Post that suggested many of Meghan's claims in the Oprah Winfrey interview were full of contradictions, as she touched on the star hitting the headlines in early March 2021 for a controversial choice in diamond earrings she made in 2018. Kelly said, "There's an article already up on the New York Post here in the States that's saying this is the person who had Clooney and Oprah at her wedding even though she didn't even know them, and then covered herself in blood diamonds from a Saudi Prince, so like, spare us that you're not into any of the grandeur" (via The Sun).
Kelly then scathingly added of Meghan, "What I saw tonight was somebody who is totally un-self-aware, completely unaware of how she sounded."
