Joanna Gaines Talks About The Unique Thing She'll Do When Chip Dies
Many Fixer Upper fans adore its stars, Chip and Joanna Gaines. So when the Magnolia Network previewed one of its series, Fixer Upper: Welcome Home, on Discovery + in January 2021, it was a bit hit.
The Waco, Texas couple also appeared on a February 2021 Discovery + special, Breaking New Ground: Expanding the Silos. Chip and Jo's chat wasn't the usual "shiplap in the living room" advice we've come to expect from the couple. During
, the Gaineses talked about the sizable Magnolia Market at the Silos expansion, including the new store called, No. 16, filled with all of the things that Chip Gaines loves. Joanna said, "We decided to name Chip's shop No. 16. It's his favorite number. Anything we get of his now — his undies, his white tee shirts — we put No. 16 in it. It's a thing."
As it turns out, 16 is a number that's important to the entire Gaines family, and it will play a meaningful role in how Joanna honors Chip after he dies. Here's what Joanna had to say about her plans.
Joanna Gaines will get a tattoo to remember Chip
Joanna Gaines plans to get a tattoo of the number 16 to remember her husband Chip Gaines after he dies. Joanna said, according to People, "When he dies, I'll go 'one, six' right there...outlining the numerals on the inside of her wrist, indicating the placement of her proposed ink."
The former hosts of HGTV's Fixer Upper also revealed that the number 16 is special to the entire family, and the kids try to wear the number for sports. "We decided to name Chip's shop No. 16. It's his favorite number. Anything we get of his now — his undies, his white tee shirts — we put No. 16 in it. It's a thing." As for the new shop, People reported, "The No. 16 shop sells everything from pennants to ball caps to baseballs." The outlet continued, "When showing off the store in the special, the couple walks through the small, wood-lined space picking up some of the items, and Joanna tells her husband, 'Babe, it's so you.'"
Not only will the tattoo be a sweet way to honor their relationship, but it also is a meaningful idea to honor their shared dreams. "All the ideas and dreams he [Chip] held for himself were anything but ordinary, and he talked about the world around him through the lens of untapped potential," Joanna wrote for Magnolia Journal in May 2020. "When Chip did eventually stop talking, if only to take a breath, I found myself wanting to fill the silence with plans and dreams of my own."
