Why Cameron Diaz Won't Return To Acting
Cameron Diaz shot to fame in her twenties and from the outside, she seemed to have it all: beauty, brains, and fame. But despite being romantically linked with A-listers like Alex Rodriguez and Justin Timberlake, the actress still hadn't found "the one." At least, until 2014 when she met Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden through her now sister-in-law, Nicole Richie, per US Weekly, and the rest, as they say, is history. Diaz and Madden surprised fans with a quickie engagement in December 2014. They tied the knot a month later, and embarked on their greatest adventure yet when they welcomed daughter Raddix Madden in late December 2019, per People.
In an interesting twist, Diaz — who has reportedly "really wanted to be a mom" – hasn't been busy on the acting circuit since marrying Madden. As of this writing, she hasn't appeared in a major motion picture since 2014's Annie, making fans question whether her acting hiatus is a permanent one. On Feb. 18, 2021, Diaz spoke with SiriusXM's Bruce Bozzi on the segment Quarantined with Bruce to clear up questions surrounding a potential return to Hollywood. Does the actress' growing family have something to do with her absence from the limelight? Will she return to the silver screen anytime soon, or has she retired for good? Keep reading to find out.
Cameron Diaz is finding motherhood to be quite fulfilling
It seems like Cameron Diaz has wanted to take a step back from the frenetic pace of a full-time acting career for a while. Speaking to Gwyneth Paltrow on her digital series, In goop Health: The Sessions in 2020, Diaz opened up about wanting "different" things out of her life. "I had gone so hard for so long, working, making films, and it's such a grind," she shared. "I didn't really make any space for my personal life." But with the break in acting came a renewed sense of happiness and peace.
Daughter Raddix's arrival has also caused Diaz to reevaluate the bigger picture and examine what kind of mom she wants to be. "I couldn't imagine ... where I'm at as a mother with my child in her first year, to have to be on a movie set that takes 14 hours, 16 hours of my day away from my child," she revealed on SiriusXM's Quarantined with Bruce segment (via E! News). "It really has been the most fulfilling part of my life so far," she added about her joy of becoming a mother. "I probably somehow waited for this, so that I could do all that other stuff. So I didn't have any distractions, you know what I mean?"
As inspirational as it is to hear that Diaz is taking motherhood so seriously, fans probably won't be holding their breath for her to make a movie in the future.
