Ted Cruz Is Being Roasted Over An Old Tweet. Here's Why
How does that saying go? Ah, yes — Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Maybe someone should refresh Texas Senator Ted Cruz on that old adage, as he is currently being raked over the old coals for an old tweet that did not age well.
As reported by Forbes, Cruz first ruffled feathers in August 2020 when he hastily sent out a tweet chastising California for what he referred to as "failed energy policies" amidst the state's blackouts. "California is now unable to perform even basic functions of civilization, like having reliable electricity. Biden/Harris/AOC want to make CA's failed energy policy the standard nationwide," he wrote. "Hope you don't like air conditioning!"
But now that the shoe is on the other foot and it's Texas that is being plagued with rolling blackouts due to a winter storm that has brought the state to its knees. Cruz might possibly be gearing up to eat a little (or a lot) of crow. So what do Cruz's naysayers have to say about that old controversial tweet? Keep reading after the jump to find out!
Ted Cruz has requested federal disaster funding as a result of Winter Storm Uri
Twitter users were quick to take politician Ted Cruz to task for his controversial August 2020 tweet in which he berated California's "failed energy policy" following a winter storm that left a staggering 3.6 million Texans without power on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, per Business Insider.
While the tweet alone was enough to grind some gears, a plea from Cruz to President Joe Biden for federal disaster funding was just icing on the proverbial cake. As reported by Forbes, one user fired out a tweet that read, "Raise ur hand if ur old enough to remember when @tedcruz & @JohnCornyn didn't want to give aid to CA after devastating wildfires or provide Hurricane Sandy relief. Texans are dealing w/ near-freezing temps & no power/heat. They deserve help. But yo, the hypocrisy of these two."
Meanwhile, a Texas resident also got in on the action with a tweet juxtaposing the old tweet by Cruz alongside a photo of the ice in his bathtub. "Here are three Texas Republicans mocking California power outages last year and my Dallas bathtub this morning, a literal block of ice." Sadly, 10 deaths have already been reported in Houston as a result of Winter Storm Uri.
