Who Is Kristen Wiig's Husband, Avi Rothman?
Target Lady got married! Saturday Night Live superstar Kristen Wiig, who has gone on to make fans laugh in hits like Bridesmaids, Girl Most Likely, and even Wonder Woman 1984, got hitched and apparently, didn't tell anyone about it. Wiig had been dating Avi Rothman since 2016, according to People. The outlet mentioned that they both like to keep things under wraps, noting that the relationship began with the two "secretly" dating.
Well, this pattern of privacy has continued, all the way up to a marriage. Wiig was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Feb. 11, 2021, and dropped the news, oh so casually, that she and Rothman got married. Even then, the announcement go dropped nonchalantly. Wiig was telling a story and said, "My boyfriend at the time, Avi...." Later, Colbert asked her to elaborate, and Wiig added, "He's my husband now. We did get married."
Of course, this is incredibly exciting news, and some might be itching to know more about Rothman's background. Keep on reading for all of the info.
Avi Rothman loves doing character sketches on YouTube
Avi Rothman and Kristen Wiig have a lot in common when it comes to the acting world. Rothman is a jack-of-all-trades, with chops as a "writer, actor, producer, and director," according to People. In fact, he and Wiig both trained at the Groundlings theater in Los Angeles.
Rothman and Wiig both excel at creating hyper-specific, hilarious characters. While Wiig is responsible for giving us SNL treasures like Target Lady, Sue, and Penelope, Rothman has an ongoing YouTube presence with his oddball character, "The Inappropriate Yoga Guy." (It's so obvious Wiig and Rothman are soulmates.) Rothman has other YouTube sketches, like "Gay Roommates" and a recurring skit series "The Seth & Avi Show." Even more interestingly, both Rothman and Wiig appeared in the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 film. Wiig had a big role, starring as Diana Prince's (Wonder Woman's daytime persona) colleague, Barbara Minerva (aka the Cheetah), according to InStyle. Meanwhile, Rothman played the character Black Gold Hotshot Aide, according to his IMDb credits, so the two seem to share a lot.
Although Rothman is an exceptional actor and writer, his net worth of $5 million, per Celebrity Net Worth, isn't as high as Wiig's whopping $25 million, per the outlet. But it's not just success, films, and comedic taste that links Rothman and Wiig. The duo has twins! Plus, they have a very funny non-engagement story. We share the hilarious anecdote below.
A puma interrupted Kristen and Avi's engagement
Avi Rothman and Kristen Wiig got engaged in 2019 and, as usual, were discreet about it, according to People. Wiig spoke about the engagement experience when she was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in February 2021. Wiig said that she and Rothman went to Chile, and during a hike, she had a sneaking suspicion that he was going to use their beautiful outing to propose.
But this did not happen. Instead, a giant puma came out of the forest and towards them. Thankfully, nothing happened in terms of danger, but the proposal was a bust. However, Rothman did wind up proposing eventually. Wiig didn't give the deets, except to drop the fact that they had since gotten married. Things got exciting again for the couple in January 2020 when reportedly they had twins via a surrogate, per InStyle. They're raising their little ones in Los Angeles, Calif., as Wiig told The New York Times in December 2020. Obviously, this new family experience is at the top of her list, so when the Times asked Wiig what she wanted for Christmas, she said, "I would love a nice, framed photo of me and my husband and my kids. It would just be a nice thing to have. And maybe some good moisturizer."
