The Real Reason Rihanna Is Ending Her Fenty Line
Rihanna is sadly closing down her clothing line.
The pop artist became the first Black woman to own a luxury fashion brand with LVMH back in 2019, according to CNN. Her clothing brand, Fenty, originally joined the ranks of Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton under the lead of the French company. However, just two years later, the artist announced that she's shutting down the brand.
Superfans of Rihanna (who have been dying for the artist to release a new album since her last venture Anti in 2016) can rest assured the "Diamonds" singer will still continue her other companies, Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, and lingerie line Savage x Fenty. Rihanna first began her journey into her Fenty brands in 2017 with her cosmetic line, following up a year later with lingerie.
Fenty's social media pages stopped regularly posting to their millions of followers in the beginning of 2021. So what prompted the "We Found Love" singer to end her Fenty line?
COVID-19 prevented Rihanna from designing her line
In a statement provided by LVMH and Rihanna, the artist revealed that her Fenty clothing line is being put on the backburner to her lingerie, skincare, and cosmetics lines: Savage x Fenty, Fenty Skin, and Fenty Beauty, respectively. "LVMH and Rihanna reaffirm their ambition to concentrate on the growth and the long-term development of the Fenty ecosystem, focusing on cosmetics, skincare, and lingerie," said the artist (via WWD).
According to the statement, the real reason Rihanna is ending her Fenty line is the COVID-19 pandemic. Teen Vogue reported that the pandemic left Rihanna unable to operate in her usual hands-on manner in Paris and Italy, making it difficult for the ready-to-wear line to continue.
"I know what's gone into the making of every single piece... if I can't wear my stuff then it just won't work," Rihanna told British Vogue in May 2019.
The Fenty clothing line site is likely to shut down in the coming weeks, so perhaps a massive sale is on the horizon first.
