Will Andy Reid's Son Coach At The Super Bowl Following His Accident?

Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid has done it again — he led his team to a second Super Bowl appearance in a row. It's no small feat for a squad to make it to the NFL championship game, especially when it comes to defending their title. The Chiefs won the Super Bowl in 2020 and they certainly want to repeat that in 2021. However, there's a bit of a dark cloud over the team's second Super Bowl appearance.

On Feb. 4 at 9 p.m., Reid's son Britt, who is the Chiefs' Outside Linebackers coach, was involved in a tragic car accident that left two young children injured, according to Yahoo Sports. The Chiefs confirmed the report, issuing a statement the next day on Feb. 5.

"We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time," the team's statement read, according to People. "Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved."

The incident has left many asking if Britt Reid will coach at the Super Bowl. Read on to find out what's going on with the assistant coach's status for the big game.

Andy Reid's son Britt won't be at the Super Bowl

On February 6, NBC Sports confirmed with the Kansas City Chiefs that Outside Linebackers coach Britt Reid, who is the son of Head Coach Andy Reid, won't be at Super Bowl LV. According to a tweet by ESPN reporter Dianna Russini, Britt Reid will not be traveling to Tampa, Florida, for the big game, because he is still in the hospital with injuries that he sustained in the multi-car crash on Feb. 4, 2021. As of yet, no criminal charges have been filed.

Britt Reid wasn't the only person hurt in the accident. A 5-year-old child sustained life-threatening injuries while a 4-year-old has non-life-threatening injuries, according to People. And local police are investigating his role in the crash. On Feb. 5, the Kansas City TV station Fox 4 obtained the police crash report and court documents from the incident, which revealed that Britt Reid allegedly admitted fault for the accident and was allegedly driving impaired. The news outlet reported that he allegedly had two or three drinks before driving that night and he had a prescription for Adderall. As of this writing, Britt is under investigation.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, this means that Andy Reid's coaching staff will be missing one key figure during the Super Bowl as Britt recovers and works through the ongoing situation.
