The Real Reason Justin Timberlake And Jessica Biel Are Worried About Their Kids
Justin Timberlake and wife Jessica Biel are trying their best to deal with an issue many celebrities are forced to confront — how their fame will affect their children.
Timberlake joined Dax Shepard's podcast Armchair Expert in January 2021 to discuss kids, family, and the unique parenting struggles he and Biel face as celebrities. The pair shares two sons together — Silas, 5, and Phineas, who was born in summer 2020. The couple, who've been married for eight years, kept the pregnancy a secret — until R&B legend Brian McKnight revealed that they'd welcome a second son to Hollywood Life in July 2020 after rumors swirled that Biel had given birth a second time.
On the podcast, the 10-time Grammy winner explained his concerns. "'I try to be conscious of making sure we can live a life where we're not weirdly private but we're conscious of making sure they can be kids for as long as possible," Timberlake expressed (via Daily Mail). "And not have the weight of somebody else treating them differently because of something that their parents do."
Justin Timberlake and Dax Shepard discuss the struggles of raising kids with famous parents
On the podcast, Dax Shepard, who's married to Frozen actress Kristen Bell, revealed his fear that his daughters Delta, 6, and Lincoln, 7, will struggle to make real friendships, saying (via Daily Mail), "I have that great fear that kids are going to hang out with them solely because of that or resent them because of that."
Shepard and Justin Timberlake also chatted about how they've told their kids not to tell their classmates about their respective parents voicing famous characters from Frozen — in which Bell plays Anna — and Trolls — where Timberlake plays Branch. Shepard told his girls, "I know you're proud and you should be able to say that, but I'm just warning you, that'll probably make other kids jealous and they won't know how to handle that feeling."
The "SexyBack" singer's oldest son is already getting extra attention because of who his parents are. "The kids at school with my 5-year-old are like, 'Your dad is Branch,'" Timberlake revealed (via Us Weekly). "For guys like us, you know, the hope is that we just keep instilling in them that we got really fun jobs, but it's not who we are. Hopefully down the road, then that has more weight to it, I guess."
These parenting struggles will likely intensify as their children get older. However, talking to them about it at a young age will hopefully help them navigate this issue in the future.
