Inside Adele's Divorce Settlement
Adele is certainly known for delivering heart-wrenching tunes and heart-pumping power anthems that focus on the sweet highs and bitter lows — as well as the hopeful beginnings and eye-opening ends — of romantic relationships. Just take a listen to "Someone Like You" and "Rolling in the Deep," which make it clear that the singer is perfectly willing and able to put herself out there in her songs when it comes to what she's been through. However, outside of the music, the star is much more private about her personal life, including her divorce from Simon Konecki.
Adele and Konecki were married for seven years and share son Angelo, per People, but they announced that they were going their separate ways in April 2019. "Adele and her partner have separated," the star's representatives said in a statement to the Associated Press at the time. "They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment." Five months later, Adele filed for divorce, per People, "citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and requesting joint custody of their son."
While the legal details around the split apparently took some time to get sorted out, the exes finally reached a divorce settlement that hopefully suits them both. Read on to find out what was involved.
Adele and Simon Konecki's divorce settlement dealt with serious issues
When Adele and Simon Konecki decided to get a divorce, they had to deal with much more than possible heartache. "With Adele's divorce filing, not only is custody of their son to be determined, but also their finances," People noted. Things were also potentially complicated due to the fact that "it is believed she and Konecki did not sign a prenup when they wed."
The outlet explained that Adele's decision to "file for divorce in the state of California — where they own property and Konecki's business has a base of operations" meant that he could have walked away from the break up with "as much as half of the singer's earnings." People also explained that decisions around "spousal support and separation of their assets and properties" would be something that they would work out through mediation, a potential sign that the two were attempting to keep things reasonable.
Another sign that Adele and Konecki were determined to work things out themselves? The fact that "[t]hey each represented themselves in their divorce," according to Entertainment Tonight. And their efforts certainly seem to have paid off. ET confirmed on Jan. 21, 2021, that the former couple had "reached an agreement on their divorce settlement."
The only thing that was left to do was for a judge to ink the agreement with their approval, which would see Adele and Konecki "officially divorced" and free to move on as (amicable?) exes and (dedicated!) co-parents.
