Inside Céline Dion's Emotional Tribute To Late Husband René Angélil
We're not crying, you are. On the fifth anniversary of her late husband René Angélil's death, Céline Dion celebrated his life in the sweetest way. The Canadian singer shared a cropped photo of herself and Angélil holding hands in front of a body of water. "René, it's been 5 years already ... There's not one day that we don't think about you," Dion captioned the Instagram photo in both English and French. "We're reaching out to you now more than ever, to guide us, protect us, and continue to watch over us. And we pray that you'll shine your love on the entire world, to all those at this very moment, who are facing incredibly difficult times."
To close her tribute, the "My Heart Will Go On" singer wrote: "You are in our hearts and in our lives forever. We love you, Celine, René-Charles, Nelson and Eddy xx..." Angélil, who was also Dion's manager, died in 2016 at the age of 74 from throat cancer, per People. Dion's fans showered her and her family with love, prayers and heart emojis in the comments. Dion's heartwarming tribute to Angélil is definitely a tearjerker but if you follow the singer's social media accounts, Dion often honors her husband's life.
Céline Dion does this pre-show ritual to honor her late husband
Céline Dion is no stranger to showing love to her late husband René Angélil on a regular basis. Dion, who shares three sons with Angélil — René-Charles and twins Nelson and Eddy — often dedicates anniversary and birthday posts to Angélil. In October 2020, Dion wished her youngest sons a happy birthday and reminded them that their dad is "watching over them" on their special day.
"Nelson and Eddy, you have been bringing so much joy, love and laughter into our lives every single day for the past 10 years," Dion captioned the Oct. 23, 2020, Instagram post. "You make me, your big brother and your Dad, who is for sure watching over you, so very proud. Happy birthday my beautiful boys! We love you so very much... – Mom, RC and Dad xx..."
Aside from posting old photos with her family to honor her husband, the "Because You Loved Me" crooner has a pre-performance ritual inspired by him. In February 2018, Dion revealed that she has a bronze replica of her husband's hand that she shakes backstage. "I shake my husband's hand and knock on wood with him every night before every show," Dion told Stellar Magazine (via InStyle). "Even after he's gone, I still talk to him." It looks like "The Power Of Love" is undeniable between Dion and Angélil.
