How Meghan Markle Really Feels About Her Half-Sister's Book
It seems that everyone wants a say in what the Duchess of Sussex is really like. British tabloids have been notoriously critical of Meghan Markle, previously calling her "manipulative," "demanding," and overall hard to handle. Tabloids also took the liberty of pitting her against sister-in-law Kate Middleton as soon as Meghan officially joined the family. "Kate's body language is saying that she is there because she has to be there and not because she wants to be. This photo hides a multitude of emotion," the Daily Mail wrote about a family photo from Meghan's wedding to Prince Harry.
Even Meghan's own family has been harsh on the duchess. After reports of her romance with Harry started circulating, her half-sister Samantha Markle called her a "social climber" who is "not fit" to be royal, according to The Sun. Meghan's relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, publicly unraveled right before her royal nuptials when he admitted to selling photos of himself preparing for the wedding to paparazzi, per the Daily Mail.
Meghan's most public attempt to tell her own royal journey thus far was through her and Harry's 2019 documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. She and her husband have also cut all ties with several British tabloids, per Forbes.
Now, Meghan is preparing for the release of her sister's tell-all book The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister — Part 1, and according to sources, she's not too excited.
Meghan Markle is not happy about her half-sister's book
According to an In Touch Weekly source, Meghan Markle "feels sick to her stomach" about Samantha Markle's upcoming book, which is due to be released on Jan. 17, 2021. However, the duchess "won't act bothered or upset about [it] in public."
Samantha told US Weekly on Jan. 13, 2021, that she doesn't intend to "attack" her half-sister, but wants to explain all aspects of growing up with the actress-turned-royal. "Contrary to troll gossip and aggregate news rumors, my book has never been designed to attack my sister," she said. "It's relatable. There's a lot to learn — the good, the bad and the ugly. I've been very forthcoming that I was never writing a hardbound tabloid. I said that two years ago, but nobody wanted to believe it."
Samantha first announced The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister — Part 1 – which will be published by Barnes & Noble — in 2017. According to Express, Samantha described the book as "fair and balanced," but also noted there will "naturally" be stories that Meghan dislikes. On the other hand, Thomas Markle spoke to US Weekly about the tell-all on Jan. 7, 2021, and said he is "very pleased" with it.
Amid the book drama, sources told In Touch Weekly that Prince Harry is "totally supporting Meghan and doesn't believe a word that comes out of Samantha's mouth."
