Kirstie Alley's Reaction To Trump's Twitter Ban Is Raising Eyebrows

After years of controversial tweets, Donald Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter. On Jan. 8, 2021, Twitter released a statement, explaining that the social media platform reviewed Trump's recent tweets "and the context around them— specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter." After careful examination, Twitter suspended the president's account because of "the risk of further incitement of violence."

Two days prior, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building as the electoral votes were being certified to confirm Joe Biden's win in the 2020 presidential election. The situation became violent, with five people getting killed, according to the New York Post. Twitter's statement said, "In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action." In addition to sharing an explanation, the platform shared recent tweets to support the decision.

However, Kirstie Alley did not support Trump's suspension. On Jan. 9, 2020, the actress tweeted (and seemingly deleted), "ALL people should be concerned is the KEY here," per Page Six. She shared, "It's true, the average person will no longer have a platform to speak their views. This is called SLAVERY. This censorship proves BIG TECH now holds the keys to the chains."

Of course, that social media post garnered a lot of attention, which led to even more tweets from the Cheers alum, defending her position.

Kirstie Alley defended her controversial stance on Donald Trump's Twitter ban

After Kirstie Alley likened Donald Trump's Twitter ban to slavery, she doubled down, tweeting, "There is more than one definition of the word slavery .. there is the well known one but the one I refer to a lot is 'restricted freedom'... such as the type of slavery in Venezuela." After a Twitter user sent Alley a GIF that said, "Girl, you crazy," the Scientologist replied, "No girl, you are stupid because U only avail yourself to ONE definition of a word when you have a flippin dictionary at your findertips [sic].. 'Venezuela has been stripped of its freedoms which has caused a form of slavery.' 'Jim is a Slave to drugs' 'censorship is a form of slavery.'"

When someone else told Alley, "I feel censorship of this level is more a form of repression and tyranny than slavery, but you do make valid points," she responded, "Both words fit."

In the midst of her ongoing defense, Alley promoted her podcast, not once, but twice, taking advantage of the many eyes on her page. She also mentioned that she voted for Barack Obama twice, which is interesting considering Alley's recent Trump endorsements. At this point, Alley is best known for her off-screen antics than her acting, so this is probably not the last time she will share some polarizing views.
