The Truth About Nick Young And Iggy Azalea's Relationship
Rap star Iggy Azalea hasn't hidden her sweet spot for dating rappers and ball players. Prior to welcoming her son Onyx with rapper Playboi Carti, the Australia native entertained a two-year relationship with former NBA player Nick Young.
The two first met at a pool party in 2013, Us Weekly reported. "[We'd met] a few years prior to that, and I didn't know and I hated him," she told The Daily Telegraph (via People). "I thought he was an a–hole." The following year Nick finally caught her attention after making her his #WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday). "I thought he was pretty handsome, so I went on a date with him," she told the outlet.
She later confirmed to TMZ that for their first date she ended up walking around a Target store with the NBA champion. By June 2015, Young was so smitten by the "Fancy" rapper that he proposed to her in front of a crowd at his 30th birthday party. She said yes and put on the 8.15-carat yellow diamond ring, as noted by Us Weekly. But, unfortunately the lovebirds never made it down the aisle.
Nicki Young's cheating led to his breakup with Iggy Azalea
In March 2016, the couple was hit with their first cheating scandal after Nick Young's infidelity was put on blast by his teammate D'Angelo Russell, Us Weekly reported. At the time, Young and Iggy Azalea had postponed their wedding over their busy schedules, and Russell released a secret recording of Young admitting to cheating on his fiance.
"You was 30, she was 19? What about Amber Rose, you ain't never tried?" Russell could be heard on the tape asking Young, per Us Weekly. To which Young replied: "No, she knows my girl." The reveal caused a rift with his teammate while Azalea opted to stick by Young's side. "I'll call a U-Haul and we can have his sh-t outta there in 10 min ... just say the words boo!" one fan tweeted to her a month later. But, she replied confirming they were still together. "lol, errrrr...nick and i are good babe," she tweeted (which has since been deleted).
However, in June 2016, the "Black Widow" rapper announced their split, according to Us Weekly. "Unfortunately although I love Nick and have tried and tried to rebuild my trust in him — it's become apparent in the last few weeks I am unable to," Azalea wrote in an Instagram post that has since been deleted.
Meanwhile, Young on the other hand kept his statement short and simple. "Single," he wrote.
