Why Justin Bieber Once Challenged Tom Cruise To A Fight
There's something entertaining about one-sided and seemingly unprovoked celebrity feuds. From Taylor Swift and Katy Perry to Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus, these feuds are always juicy, fun to read about, and elicit funny reactions from celebrities and fans alike. One of the most unexpected feuds of all time, though, would have to be Justin Bieber and Tom Cruise. Actually, it's not technically a feud if one side doesn't know anything about it, as was the case with Cruise.
In 2019, Bieber challenged Cruise to join him in the UFC ring to solve a problem so fiendishly difficult no one had previously bothered to think of it. "I wanna challenge Tom Cruise to a fight in the octagon," the singer tweeted. "Tom if you dont take this fight your scared and you will never live it down. Who is willing to put on the fight? @danawhite?" (Dana White, whom Beiber tagged, is the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship).
Shortly after Bieber sent out the tweet, he became a trending topic on Twitter with many users scratching their heads and wondering if the singer would win against the Mission Impossible star. Cruise did not respond to Bieber's challenge and left him hanging. However, James Corden was able to find out the real reason for Bieber's challenge.
Justin Bieber said he didn't know why he challenged Tom Cruise
During a Carpool Karaoke segment that aired in February 2020, James Corden brought up Justin Bieber's tweet and asked him how it came about. "I don't know. I was just being stupid, to be honest," Bieber said. But then, he appeared to get offended when Corden said that he felt pretty confident that Cruise would win had they battled.
"I try not to let my ego get in the way, but there's absolutely no way. He's not the guy you see in movies," Bieber insisted, but Corden felt differently. Cruise has been known for doing most of his own stunts in films and, as Corden pointed out, Cruise is also super fit and in shape.
"Phenomenal shape doesn't mean you're a good fighter," Bieber insisted, looking out the window and visibly getting worked up. "He's an actor. I don't think you understand the mind control that I have. My mind control is another specimen. I'm different."
While we're sad that Bieber's fight with Cruise never materialized, we're also very impressed by Bieber's persistence and confidence. We hope that Cruise will see Bieber's excitement and answer him in 2021.
