The Deleted Scene That Was Too Racy For Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl ruled the world for the six seasons it ran. The CW show gave viewers wanderlust for New York City, Chanel-lust from the endless shots of glamorous goods, and lust-lust for the titillating romances between, well, everyone. It was a really wild show considering it covered the storylines of a bunch of high school kids.
The show facilitated some real-life romances as well, namely between Blake Lively and co-star Penn Badgley. When they broke up, things got awkward for both Lively and Badgley, obviously. It was awkward enough that Badgley said Lively was both his best and his worst onscreen kiss, explaining his answer on Watch What Happens Live in 2015. "I'll say [the best] it was Blake because we actually had a relationship at the time." Badgley then added, "And then the worst? Maybe Blake after we broke up." Makes sense.
But there were more real-life relationships that sprung from the TV show. Ed Westwick, who played Chuck Bass, dated Jessica Szohr, who played Vanessa Abrams, per Page Six. We're not even done. Leighton Meester, who gave Blair Waldorf attitude and grace, dated Sebastian Stan, who played the briefly onscreen character Carter Baizen. They split in 2012, according to Us Weekly, but ended their relationship amicably.
With so much on- and offscreen romance, it might come as a shock that a few love scenes got deleted for being too racy. Here's the scoop.
The racy scene between Chuck and Blair that got cut
Despite the sexy nature of Gossip Girl, there were still some scenes that got cut. The show's executive producer Joshua Safran told Vulture in 2017 that there were two moments that were simply too racy to make it.
Safran said there was supposed to be an oral sex scene between Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf: "We had a story about Chuck taking care of Blair under a table at Xan's." Safran added, "I don't think we were able to do it, but we hinted at it." (As W Magazine points out, Safran doesn't explain what Xan's is, but we're left to assume it's a restaurant.)
But that wasn't all. Georgina Sparks (played by Michelle Trachtenberg) was supposed to have a box of sex toys in an X-rated prank to play on Blake Lively's character, Serena van der Woodsen. Georgina was meant to send the toys to Dan Humphrey's apartment. "We had these really huge [sex toys] in this house that Penn [Badgley] was so shocked to see — but we cut it because you couldn't show them on air," Safran explained. "The deleted-scene version, which I don't think we ever put anywhere, is hilarious because they're like a foot and a half long," he added.
Oh boy. Makes sense these scenes got cut!
