RHOP: This Is Who Really Paid For Candiace Dillard's New House
During Season 4 of The Real Housewives of Potomac, Ashley Darby took a dig at Candiace Dillard for living in a home that her mother paid for, which was talked about all season. Candiace's mom Dorothy Dillard even appeared at the reunion to discuss her financial involvement, among other issues. In September 2019, Candiace gave an update on her living arrangements on The Real Housewives of Potomac After Show.
Candiace said, "I think everyone had this idea that taking over the mortgage was going to be the solution to a lot of our problems. I knew different ..." Candiace clarified that she and husband Chris Bassett started paying the whole mortgage. Nevertheless, she said Dorothy "still refers and references things that she's done or that she's doing — well she's not doing anything anymore financially — but things that she had done."
Referencing her mom's contributions to her pageant career, education, and extracurricular activities over the years, Candiace said, "everything that she's done for me ... has contributed to who I am today and I'm really happy that she's done that." However, she called it "exhausting" to be reminded about those contributions.
In November 2020, Candiace shared a photo of herself and Chris holding up a "sold" sign in front of a house, writing that they have "Much to be thankful for." She also included the hashtags "Our House," "his and hers" and "moves on moves on moves." Was that her way of confirming that Dorothy didn't pay for this house?
Candiace Dillard's new home raised some questions
When Candiace Dillard broke the news about her new home on Instagram, she had support in the comments section, with All About The Tea reporting that Real Housewives of Potomac newbie Wendy Osefo commented, "Congrats you two!!!" However, Candiace and Chris Bassett also received some flack in response to their big milestone. One "fan," asked, "How much y'all wanna bet at least half was with her mama's money?"
Another person commented, "With momma's money ??? Cause it certainly wasn't the money she was trying to snake from Monique [Samuels]," which was seemingly a reference to the lawsuit Candiace filed against Monique following their physical altercation. Candiace didn't waste time replying to any of the negativity. Instead, she waited to speak out on a much bigger platform: the RHOP Season 5 reunion.
Candiace shared (via Bravo), "We purchased a new home." And, no, that "we" wasn't her way of saying that she, Chris, and Dorothy Dillard went in on the mortgage together. Candiace clarified, "It was purchased by myself and my husband." However, her mom did contribute something to their new place. The "I See You" singer revealed, "My mother was generous enough to donate a rubber plant." Well, there you have it. It seemed like Season 5 was a much easier one for Candiace and Dorothy. Apparently, removing money from their relationship was the best move for them. Plus, it prevents the other Housewives from shading Candiace's finances.
