Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino Could Be Facing New Legal Troubles
Uh oh! Jersey Shore star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino might be in trouble with the law, again. Back in April 2017, the reality star, along with his brother Marc, was indicted for "tax offenses and conspiring to defraud the United States after allegedly failing to pay taxes properly on $8.9 million in income from 2010 to 2012," along with tax evasion and structuring and falsifying records, per People. Mike plead guilty to one count of tax evasion in January 2018, while his brother pleaded guilty to one count of aiding in the preparation of a false and fraudulent tax return, according to the outlet. In October 2018, Mike was sentenced to eight months behind bars and two years of supervised release, in addition to completing 500 hours of community service, paying $123,913 in restitution plus a $10,000 fine. Marc was sentenced to two years of jail time.
After serving eight months at Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in New York, he was released on Sept. 12, 2019. "We are elated to finally close this chapter of our life," Mike and his wife, Lauren, told People at the time.
Since his release, Mike has continued to work on his MTV reality show without skipping a beat. He and Lauren revealed they are expecting their first child together. Despite all the positive developments since prison, Mike might have to report back after not fulfilling all of his obligations to the court. Keep scrolling for more details.
Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino's probation officer isn't too happy with him
Although Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino may have done his time in prison, it seems like he had neglected to adhere to all of the stipulations of his sentence. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Mike is behind on his court-ordered community service after only completing 18 hours of his 500-hour sentence since leaving prison in September 2019. The documents state that his probation officer has reminded the reality star "at nearly every interaction to find a venue for community service, including service that could be performed from home."
The documents also reveal that he was scheduled to volunteer in August 2020 but skipped out on the obligation for COVID-19 concerns. As a result of his lackadaisical approach to his community service sentence, his probation officer asked the judge to issue a written warning for falling behind his hours, and the judge is reportedly following through on the suggestion.
Neither Mike nor wife Lauren have addressed the report, but the reality star has been active on social media promoting his new workout program and has created a media frenzy after announcing the sex of the expecting couple's baby — a little boy. The parents-to-be have even created an Instagram account dedicated to their bundle of joy, called @ItsBabySituation. It seems like Mike is looking forward to the future, but he might need to backpedal if he wants to keep moving ahead.
