Michael Phelps Secretly Married Nicole Johnson In June
If you've been wondering why Michael Phelps hasn't made any wedding plans public, it's because the wedding already happened.
The Olympian secretly tied the knot with fiancée Nicole Johnson just after the birth of their son, Boomer, Fox News reports.
Phelps, 31, and Johnson, 31, married on June 13, 2016, but neither announced the nuptials. In fact, the only allusion to a wedding was an Instagram post from Johnson of the happy family in casual wear with the caption, "Such a memorable night with my lil fambam."
TMZ notes that the officiant was Phelps' best friend and longtime manager, Peter Carlisle.
People reports that the pair got hitched in Paradise Valley, Arizona. The super-swimmer told People in August 2016, "I'm really blessed. She's really good for me. I really can't wait to get married. It will be a small destination wedding later this year. It's the next big milestone I'm looking forward to."
Johnson echoed Phelps' tall tale to Access Hollywood (via E! News) over the summer. "It'll be small and intimate for the wedding, and then we're throwing a massive bash for everyone in the States," she said. "I've been planning as we've been leading up to this, so I think I have the wedding in order and now it's on to the party for the fun."
Phelps himself denied just last week that he was already married when fans suggested he'd wed Johnson in secret.
Phelps also revealed to People that fatherhood has changed his outlook on life.
"Fatherhood has changed me," he said. "And I like it. I'm ready for this new stage of my life."
"I became fatherly in everything I do," he admitted. "I even see that in swimming. As the captain of the team. The things I was saying and doing, I see myself becoming more of a father figure. I'm leaving here and going home, and it's going to be all about Boomer. I only get this chance with him once. So I'm going to take this time to be a hands-on dad."
