Melania Celebrates Christmas Tree's Arrival With Fresh Look
Model-turned-first lady Melania Trump is busy preparing for Christmas at the White House, an important job traditionally saved for the president's wife. Following tradition, the first lady emerged from the North Portico of the White House on Nov. 23, 2020 to welcome the 18-and-a-half-foot Fraser fir from Dan and Bryan Trees in West Virginia, as reported by USA Today.
The tree arrived in a festive green Clydesdale horse-drawn carriage dressed with a simple wreath. It was delivered as a military band played "O Tannenbaum" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," per The New York Post. The first lady inspected the tree and posed for the media before returning into the White House.
During her quick appearance, Melania sported a fresh look and seemed to be beaming with pride as she accepted the large tree. Luckily, the White House Christmas tree was saved from the harsh criticism received by the tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City. Instead, any criticism was targeted at Melania. This is why Melania's new style had people talking.
Melania Trump prepared for Christmas with a new look
Melania Trump has usually sported brunette locks that fall just below her shoulders since she caught Donald Trump's eye in 1998. However, she seemed to be testing the waters in 2020 with lighter hair before debuting a completely blonde look for the arrival of the White House Christmas tree.
People were understandably shocked by the first lady's transformation and took to Twitter to share their thoughts. "Melania has [dyed] her hair from dark to light..! She is now blonde and still smokin it as FLOTUS," one content fan tweeted in support. Others were simply stunned by the new look. "I just can't get past the fact that Melania is now a blonde," another Twitter user wrote.
Melania completed her new look by dressing in a long houndstooth coat with black knee-high boots and long black gloves. Her wide smile showed her excitement for the event, or according to some, that was the idea she wanted to portray. Many people were not too happy about her smile, claiming it was fake and that in reality Melania hates Christmas. Keep reading to find out why that is.
Melania Trump supposedly hates Christmas
In October 2020, CNN's Anderson Cooper revealed a secret 2018 recording of a conversation between first lady Melania Trump and former aide Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. Known as the quieter and aloof half of the marriage, Donald Trump's wife is heard saying some concerning things about her duties as the first lady specifically around the holidays.
"I say that I'm working on Christmas and planning for the Christmas and they said, 'Oh, what about the children that they were separated?'" Melania apparently complained to Wolkoff at the time, referring to her husband's controversial policy to separate immigrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border. Her complaints also covered her being pressured to do more, as if she doesn't already have enough on her plate. "I'm working... my a** off on the Christmas stuff," she said before using expletives to ask if anyone actually cares about Christmas decorations. "But I need to do it, right?" she concluded.
The fact that the leaked recordings appeared so close to Melania accepting the 2020 White House Christmas tree drove Twitter to have a field day with accusations about her sincerity. "Melania walking out and pretending to like Christmas at this point is actually pretty funny. She lives for petty," one user slammed.
Whether Melania likes Christmas or not, her holiday spirit may be dampened this year considering her husband was not re-elected to a second term in office, with reports swirling that she's been begging him to concede.
How Melania Trump feels about leaving the White House
While the Trump campaign was positive they would see Melania Trump accept extremely large, horse-delivered Christmas trees for the next four years, their plan did not come into fruition when Joe Biden was named the winner of the 2020 presidential election. Rumors surfaced that Donald Trump would refuse to leave the White House as his campaign put up a legal fight and claimed election fraud, just as he has refused to follow the American tradition of conceding his loss.
However, CNN reported that behind the scenes, both Melania and son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner urged the 45th president of the United States to accept the defeat. Furthermore, a source reported that Melania can't wait to return to her normal life in New York during an appearance on Rob Shuter's Naughty But Nice podcast on Nov. 9, 2020. "For the past four years, Melania has missed her life in New York," the source claimed, per OK! magazine. "She loves the city and the lifestyle she used to have and cannot wait to get it back at Trump Tower. She basically put her life on hold to be with her husband in D.C. She never wanted any of this."
If this is true, Melania will be happy to return to her old life of decorating her house for the holidays following her own rules starting in 2021.
